Sonic the Hedgehog 4 unveils release date after third movie’s success

The fourth installment of Sonic the Hedgehog, titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4, has scheduled its launch only a few days following the record-breaking debut of its third part in the series.

According to Deadline, the fourth movie is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2027, one week prior to the Easter holiday weekend.

The movie is currently being made without a director or actors confirmed, but Jeff Fowler has been at the helm for all previous installments in the series and Ben Schwartz provides the voice for Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was first reported by Variety in December ahead of the third movie’s release.

The news was later validated by Schwartz on Twitter, who posted a picture of the article and exclaimed: “This is not a drill! Sonic 4 is coming in 2027! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!”.

Just a few days ago, “Sonic 3” surpassed all other films in its franchise by earning an impressive $420 million at worldwide box offices, making it the top-grossing movie in the series so far.

In its worldwide run, Sonic 2 accumulated an impressive $405 million at the box office, outperforming Sonic 1’s global earnings of $320 million. It’s clear why plans for a fourth installment are underway!

In the game Sonic 3, the legendary video game figure squared off against Shadow, a character voiced by the renowned Keanu Reeves, and also recurring adversary Dr. Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey.

In the movie, it appeared like my favorite gaming duo, Shadow and Robotnik, were both written off – but boy, was I in for a surprise! During the credits, a sneaky twist unfolded: it turned out that the Reeves character had somehow managed to pull through!

Last month, the movie’s creators Pat Casey and Josh Miller clarified that Jim Carrey’s character might have met an irreversible end in the film, hinting at a possible permanent death.

Miller shared with GamesRadar: “Our aim is for there to be countless versions of these [games], and perhaps by Sonic The Hedgehog 8, just like the Fast & Furious series has shown, it’s not necessary for anyone to stay deceased if they don’t wish to.

Casey stated: “Indeed, one might conclude ‘he’s undoubtedly deceased due to the space blast, yet there’s a slim possibility…’ However, that hinges upon Jim, I believe.

There are just a handful of actors capable of achieving this feat; it might even be limited to a single individual. To put it simply, comedy isn’t an easy skill to master.
