Francisco San Martin, ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Jane the Virgin’ actor, dies at 39

The actor Francisco San Martin, known for his roles in “Days of Our Lives” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” passed away in Los Angeles.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles County medical examiner confirmed the passing of an actor, who had previously appeared as a guest on the TV series “Jane the Virgin” on The CW. According to coroner’s reports, San Martin took his own life through ligature hanging at his residence in Los Angeles. He was 39 years old.

Born in Mallorca, Spain, but raised in Montana, San Martin was later reported by Forbes. After moving back to Spain with his family, he began his modeling career as a teenager and eventually appeared on stage, screen, and television in Spain before relocating back to the U.S. again.

Actor San Martin initially portrayed the character of Dario Hernandez, a small-time thief who arrives in town to solve an unsolved murder case from years past, on the soap opera “Days of Our Lives.” This series shifted to streaming on Peacock in 2022. From 2011 to late 2011, San Martin played Dario for a span of five months. His storyline concluded with his character departing for Argentina, and the role was taken over by another actor in 2016.

Television

Actress Robyn Bernard, known for her role in the daytime drama ‘General Hospital’ on ABC from 1984 to 1990, passed away at the age of 64.

In 2017, San Martin portrayed Mateo, a character who was hired to charm Quinn Fuller on “The Bold and the Beautiful” on CBS. That same year, he also appeared as Fabian Regalo del Cielo, a popular telenovela star trying to win Gina Rodriguez’s character in “Jane the Virgin.” Before these roles, he had a minor part in the 2013 film “Behind the Candelabra,” which told the story of Liberace.

2023 saw the unfortunate passing of Billy Miller, an actor known for his roles in “The Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital,” at the young age of 43. His mother reported that he passed away after succumbing to the challenges posed by bipolar depression. Earlier this year, Alec Musser, a former star on “All My Children,” took his own life at the age of 50, and in March, Robyn Bernard, who played Terry Brock on “General Hospital” during the 1980s, was found deceased in an open field in Riverside County at the age of 64. These incidents serve as a reminder of the emotional challenges faced by soap opera actors.

In October, Ron Hale, previously known for his roles as Mike Corbin on “General Hospital” and Dr. Rodger Coleridge on “Ryan’s Hope,” passed away at the age of 78. More recently, Leslie Charleson, who had portrayed Monica Quartermaine on “General Hospital” for many years, passed away last week after a prolonged illness at the age of 79.
