Beloved ITV drama could soon return as a film as lead star speaks out
Doc Martin star Martin Clunes has hinted that the beloved ITV drama could return.
The show concluded in December 2022 following a run of 18 years, wrapping up with a festive holiday-themed finale on Christmas.
It’s worth mentioning that Clunes hinted at the possibility of a Doc Martin film, stating that it might materialize.
A movie distributor mentioned the possibility of producing a film adaptation of Doc Martin. When asked about this two years after wrapping up the 10th and final series, he responded that it might never happen, but there’s always a chance.” (via The Sun)
By producing two full-length Christmas movies, each lasting 90 and 120 minutes, we demonstrated our ability to handle longer productions, such as an extended edition of Doc Martin. Therefore, creating a longer version of the show is indeed feasible.
Previously, Clunes, the actor portraying surgeon Martin Ellingham in the series, clarified that it needed to conclude due to our efforts to avoid repeating the same storylines.
Eventually, all great things must conclude, and I’m confident that some viewers might find the series predictable. However, we’re going to great lengths to avoid repeating ourselves in our storytelling.
It seems like we’ve exhausted all our options. Continuing would be wonderful, but I’m not sure if we can maintain the same quality anymore.
Currently, Clunes is back on our screens with the new ITV drama “Out There“, that made its debut on Sunday (January 19).
The actor plays the lead role in a six-episode show where he portrays Nathan, a Welsh farmer. This character encounters mysterious and ominous influences that are slowly affecting his peaceful rural neighborhood.
