Megan Barton Hanson Claims Love Island Made Her the ‘Villain’ in Fiery Romance with Wes
Megan Barton Hanson recently disclosed that she believed she was portrayed as the antagonist during her stint on Love Island due to her intense relationship with Wes Nelson.
30-year-old television personality confessed in a recent interview that she was initially labeled as a “maneater” during her stint on the ITV2 show in 2018, which is why she’s never revisited her series since then.
On the latest installment of OnlyFans’ OFTV documentary series titled “In Real Life”, Megan expressed: ‘I found myself labeled as a maneater, an ex-stripper, and the wild card, but that could not be further from my true self.’
Megan mentioned that she hasn’t completely re-watched her time on the show, mainly because she knows she portrayed the role of the antagonist.
On the program, Megan stated that her summer was “simply wonderful,” but she expressed reluctance to revisit it as she felt pressured to conform to a specific mold.
She stated: ‘It appears I’ve been stereotypically labeled as a “maneater,” an “ex-stripper,” and the “crazy one.” However, let me clarify that this is not an accurate representation of who I am! I can be assertive in pursuing my desires, but I also have deep friendships with other women.’
Megan had been in a romantic relationship with Eyal Booker, but she created quite a fuss when she opted to pair up with Wes Nelson instead, even though he has a past connection with her friend Laura Anderson.
The pair did go onto make things official, but split just five months later.
In real life, Megan was observed having fun white-water rafting during an interview conducted by Casey Boonstra. (Or alternatively, Megan enjoyed white-water rafting while being interviewed by Casey Boonstra in the real world.)
As a committed champion for women’s rights and sexual empowerment, I found myself reflecting on my time in Love Island and how it shaped my understanding of personal expression.
She expressed: ‘Growing up, I found it rare to encounter women openly discussing pleasure and sex. If my peers were reserved or if I didn’t have a comfortable dialogue with my parents about such topics, it left me wondering whom I could approach for advice.’
Being that guiding voice for others is something I truly enjoy. By openly discussing this aspect of myself during my time on Love Island, I think I made it easier for people to approach me with their questions and seek my advice.
Growing up, discussions about female sexual pleasure weren’t common, yet I have always identified as someone who appreciates their sexuality.
It seems that women are frequently depicted only as mothers, partners, or wives. It’s high time for women to prioritize themselves more, asserting who they are and what they desire in a relationship. If someone doesn’t bring value to your life, it might be best for them to step aside.
Trusting her choice to reveal her bisexuality, Megan discloses that at first, she intended to hide it before leaving Love Island, but later decided that people would judge her regardless. So, she thought, why not?
Afterward, she emphasized the significance of nurturing her psychological well-being, expressing it as: “Maintaining mental health is an ongoing process.
If it’s comparable to sexuality, since these aspects play significant roles in our human lives, wouldn’t you agree that they deserve open conversations? Why isn’t this topic being discussed more often?
Megan previously ruled out a return to the Love Island villa for spin-off All Stars.
Speaking candidly with TopMob, I shared my honest feelings about my absence from the show. I declared that among all the participants, none sparked romantic or intimate feelings within me. This is the reason I chose to step away from the show.
Regarding the lineup for All Stars 2025, she went on to say: “The female contestants are absolutely fantastic, however, I’m left wondering about the male side… what seems to have occurred?
The group under discussion includes the ex-partner of Maura Higgins, a pair who reached the finale in season three, as well as a previous victor from the show.
For Megan, it was only Ovie Soko from season five who might have managed to draw her back again.
She shared that when they requested her to complete the final task, she reached out to him, but he responded negatively by saying “I’m not going to do it”. As a result, she chose not to continue with the task.
Although the group of men didn’t catch her attention, Megan was eager to express her joy that there are numerous attractive women this time around.
As Love Island takes a backseat this season, I’m still fearlessly charging toward my objectives for the year ahead, just as resolute and determined as ever.
‘Just big d**** and lots of money!’ she declared, when asked what she is manifesting for 2025.
