GTA VI Could Reportedly Cost $100, Sparking Industry ‘Hope’ it May Usher in Wider Price Rise

Slated for launch later this year, it’s clear that Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to be the most significant game of 2025, however, a report suggests that it may retail at around $100/£80. Given its projected earnings of $3 billion in its initial year, this price tag seems justified.

The report under discussion, published by Matthew Ball of Epyllion (through Eurogamer), suggests that Take-Two Interactive may opt to release Grand Theft Auto 6 at an elevated cost. This could be due to the game’s substantial production budget and potential expansiveness being used as reasons for a price increase.

The report implies that if Grand Theft Auto 6 launches at around $100 or £80, it could signal a trend towards industry-wide price hikes for video games, much like how the arrival of Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 established a standard $80/£70 tag across the market.

A potential increase in game prices could be attributed to escalating development expenses, yet Daniel Ahmad, analyst at Niko Partners, presents an opposing view regarding the price of GTA 6, suggesting it might not be necessary, considering the substantial income that Grand Theft Auto Online still generates over time.

Ahmad stated on a social media platform: “I find it unlikely that this event will occur.” He went on to say, “Considering the substantial profits Take-Two makes from Grand Theft Auto Online, it’s highly improbable they would lower the price (they won’t).” Furthermore, he noted, “It’s not necessary to increase prices when a significant portion of pre-orders will be for a $100 package offering additional benefits.

Regardless of circumstances, it’s expected that “Grand Theft Auto VI” will hit the shelves in fall 2025 (assuming no unexpected setbacks). So, we’ll just need to stay patient and find out how much we might end up spending on it once it’s available.
