Another NASCAR team gets renamed before the 2025 Daytona 500

2025 hasn’t been a seamless beginning for MBM Motorsports, as their initial intention was to debut in the NASCAR Cup Series with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, having Mike Wallace, aged 65, as the driver of the No. 66 Ford. However, NASCAR determined that Wallace is not allowed to compete in the event.

The team owned by Carl Long is still working towards competing with car number 66 at the renowned “Racing World Center” next month. However, they are currently on the hunt for a replacement driver and a fresh sponsor.

As a gamer, I’ve got to secure my spot in this race, and it ain’t going to be a walk in the park. There are more than forty competitors on the list, and I’ve got to qualify either through the individual qualifying session or one of those Bluegreen Vacations Duel races. It’s no piece of cake!

But before the entry list is set for the “Great American Race”, MBM Motorsports have announced a rebrand.

This year, the NASCAR Cup Series division of our company, which had been on hiatus for all of 2023, will be renamed Garage 66.

In the year 2025, Garage 66 hopes to participate in approximately twenty of the thirty-six races on their calendar, marking their busiest season since they took part in twenty-one events back in 2021. Initially, they aimed for a full-time schedule in 2021 following their full-time participation in 2020; however, things didn’t go as planned. They only managed to participate in two races during 2022.

Despite reducing their operations during the 2023 season, the team that was previously fielded by Xfinity Series continues to be recognized under its original name, MBM Motorsports.

The name change is the latest of several at the Cup level in recent years.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news from the world of virtual racing! Last year, JTG Daugherty Racing transformed into HYAK Motorsports, gearing up for the 2025 season. Before them, Roush Fenway Racing underwent a similar transformation, becoming RFK Racing in 2022, following Brad Keselowski’s entry as a co-owner of the team.

In the subsequent year, Petty GMS Motorsports transformed into Legacy Motor Club following Jimmie Johnson’s acquisition of a share in the team. This rebranded team was actually a new identity formed when Richard Petty Motorsports and GMS Racing merged just a year earlier.

As a diehard racing enthusiast, I was taken aback when Stewart-Haas Racing decided to call it quits at the end of the 2024 season. However, my spirits were lifted when team co-owner Gene Haas made an exciting announcement: he would be retaining one of our precious charters and launching a new venture for 2025 – the Haas Factory Team! I can’t wait to see what this fresh start brings!

The Daytona 500’s solo qualifier is set for Wednesday, the 12th of February. The twin Bluegreen Vacations Duel races are planned for Thursday, the 13th of February at 7:00 PM Eastern Time (Fox will broadcast). Lastly, the actual 67th race will occur on Sunday, the 16th of February at 2:30 PM Eastern Time (again, Fox will air it).
