Shocking Twist: Erin Molan’s Sky News Successor Unveiled After Sudden Show Cancellation!
The identity of Erin Molan’s successor at Sky News has been unveiled, following her departure from the network towards the end of last year.
Sky News Australia decided to discontinue Molan’s Friday night current affairs show by the end of November, and a replacement for her has since been announced.
On a recent Instagram post on Friday, Danica De Giorgio announced that she will be assuming Molan’s position.

Tonight marks the premiere of my fresh new program! I invite you all to tune in every Friday at 5 pm for insightful commentary and analysis on today’s breaking news stories from all corners of our nation and globe.
At the network, De Giorgio is widely recognized, as he shares hosting duties for the Danica & James show, which airs every Sunday evening at 7:00 PM.
A seasoned political commentator and emcee, boasting more than a decade of expertise, is set to take charge of the Danica De Giorgio show airing every Friday at 5 pm.
Molan was among the earliest to extend congratulations to her successor, penning in the comment section below the announcement: “Warm congratulations! You’re stunning!
‘You will be superb… as always’.
In the recent past, I unveiled an intriguing piece of information: last month, Political Commentator and once the Host of Channel Nine’s NRL Footy Show, Molan, bid a final farewell to her role at the News Corp-owned station.
Despite some network insiders implying that Molan was taken aback by the move to terminate her program, Sky News Australia maintained that the split with the host was conducted in a friendly manner.
For the last three years, Erin has proven herself to be an exceptional contributor to the Sky News team, consistently working tirelessly for her audience, and fiercely championing causes that resonate deeply with her. This was shared by a representative when speaking to Daily Mail Australia.
‘We’d like to thank Erin for her contribution to the network.’
Although everyone said their heartfelt goodbyes, it seemed that Molan didn’t attend the subdued Christmas party at the station.
On Friday, November 29, it was confirmed that Erin had delivered her popular weekly news program one last time, as stated by Daily Mail Australia.
The subsequent episode of the program saw Network colleague James Macpherson taking over from Molan, but the audience was informed that he was merely standing in for her. Despite this, the show continued to be credited as ‘Erin’.
The cancellation of Molan’s show occurred approximately four months following the discontinuation of her breakfast radio program, which she co-hosted with comedians Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee, by the ailing 2DayFM station of Southern Cross Austereo in August.
Originally, the group was swapped out with Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye from The Hit Network, who consented to move their late-night show “The Jimmy and Nath Show” to morning time, continuing until the end of the year.
It is widely believed that the termination of Molan’s major hosting positions resulted in a substantial monetary impact on the seasoned journalist.
Reports indicate that she was earning approximately $200,000 annually from her 2DayFM radio show and an additional $150,000 per year from her role at Sky News Australia.
In July 2022, the 41-year-old journalist left Nine Network, where he had worked for 11 years, and then started working for Sky News Australia. He ended his association with Nine in December 2021.
She first aired her personal program titled ‘Erin’ at 7pm on July 19th, temporarily filling in for fellow Sky presenter Sharri Markson during her maternity leave on Sunday evenings. Later, her show was shifted to the 5pm time slot on Fridays.
Molan expressed that she was eager to step away from sportscasting and transition into providing intense political news coverage.
In her conversation with The Daily Telegraph, Molan emphasized that her ability to be playful and humorous doesn’t imply a lack of seriousness or credibility when it comes to politics, as she has a genuine passion for it as well.
My deep-seated affection for news has always ignited a passion within me. I’ve long awaited the right moment to fully immerse myself in this field.
As my new program debuts, I believe people’s view of me as merely “the sports girl” or “the girl from The Football Show” will evolve.
‘Being a host on television, it doesn’t really matter what the subject matter is.
I’ve engaged in entertainment, delivered news updates, discussed sports, and even hosted some outlandish segments on The Footy Show.
In other realms, my versatility doesn’t diminish my legitimacy in the slightest. Being able to handle a variety of tasks, from being playful and lighthearted to being serious and trustworthy when necessary, I believe these qualities aren’t contradictory at all.
Following the cancellation of her morning program, Dave Cameron, head of content at Southern Cross Austereo and responsible for the programming on 2DayFM, mentioned that they will soon announce a permanent new host. This change will take place in an appropriate amount of time.
Since then, Smith and Roye have decided to stay in their time slot permanently.
At the time of their departure, Molan, Hughes, and Kavalee collectively expressed gratitude towards their listeners for staying tuned during their broadcasts.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share the news: “Alas, the mornings spent with you on 2DayFM Breakfast have been a source of immense joy for us. Yet, regrettably, our families reside in diverse cities, making it challenging to dedicate ourselves fully to 2025.
As a devoted supporter, I’m stepping back, feeling quite somber, to give 2DayFM the space they need to discover their next dynamic breakfast team.
We’re deeply thankful to Sydney for their assistance. It’s been incredible to see our audience nearly doubled over a three-year period, an achievement we take immense pride in. We’ll miss every single member of that community.
The choice to cancel the show sparked controversy following Annette Sharp, a fellow News Corp colleague of Molan, writing an editorial in Sydney’s Saturday Telegraph suggesting that the move to dismiss the hosts was planned as early as October 2023.
‘The Hughes/Kavalee/Molan radio show, which is quite costly, isn’t gaining much ground during the morning hours and lost around a third of its listeners according to the latest radio ratings, going from a 5 share to a 3.6. This places them sixth behind 2GB, KIIS, WS, ABC, Smooth, and Triple M. Given these results and the doubts about their appeal with 2DAY’s usual female audience, it seems the end is near for the breakfast team, as suggested by a comment made on August 10.’
On Thursday, 2DAY abruptly changed its format from talk shows to music only, depriving Hughes, Kavalee, and Molan of an opportunity to bid farewell to their listeners. Some industry experts speculate that this change could potentially boost the station’s ratings.
The tale prompted Molan, a columnist for the Daily Telegraph, to swiftly criticize it within just four hours of its publication, by responding to the newspaper’s website.
‘Dear Annette,’ she wrote in an open letter.
I really appreciate your ongoing curiosity about my professional journey. However, there are just a few points that need addressing, and I wouldn’t want to leave them unanswered. Since I haven’t had an opportunity to respond earlier, I find it necessary to address these matters myself.
‘A couple of points you neglected to mention in your article… Within three years, our Sydney breakfast radio show expanded from just under 200,000 listeners to more than 400,000 – that’s an amazing increase in audience size.’
As your go-to lifestyle guide, I’m thrilled to share that every Friday at 5 PM, my show graces the screens of Sky News viewers, consistently ranking as their top choice on our network.
In addition to contributing articles for this local paper, I’m also a writer for Stellar Magazine, and it appears that both publications have been warmly welcomed by their readers.
‘Southern Cross Austereo requested that I remain with them, but I declined. It seems that perhaps my style isn’t to everyone’s liking, including yours, and that’s alright. If there’s ever any doubt about facts in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact me.’
Molan did not respond when approached by Daily Mail Australia at the time.
