Stephen Fry’s Heartfelt Anniversary Post for Husband Sparks Surprise After Years of Silence!
On the 10th anniversary of their marriage, Stephen Fry paid a heartfelt homage to his spouse, Elliot Spencer, through an affectionate Instagram message that he posted on a Friday.
Stephen, aged 67, and Elliot, aged 36, have a tendency to maintain a low profile regarding their marital life, as they haven’t been seen together in public for nearly six years.
Expressing a heartfelt sentiment about their contented marriage, the broadcaster exclaimed, “I feel incredibly fortunate” under a classic photograph of their wedding day, captured in black and white.
He wrote: ‘Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I’m a lucky man.’
Despite their significant age difference – approximately three decades – the pair appear to be more resilient than ever, based on his recent affectionate social media update.
Stephen and Elliot got married in January 2015, only 10 days following their announcement of engagement.
In the year 2014, Elliot, a resident of Southampton, first encountered Stephen. At the beginning, he was recognized by the public as Mr. E., but later on, they made their relationship more open to the public.
Previously, Stephen shared that he doesn’t desire to reach a ripe age of 100, as he fears the loneliness that might come with it.
He admitted that he would find it ‘deeply upsetting’ to see a world without his friends and family.
During an appearance on Evgeny Lebedev’s podcast, Brave New World, Stephen openly expressed his preference for the concept of death, revealing that it’s the notion of deterioration or decay that unsettles him instead.
He shared: “For me personally, I’m not overly concerned with my own lifespan. Instead, what attracts me, like many others, is the concept of a later life that is free from pain, has minimal cognitive decline, and offers overall comfort.
‘But I am not someone who wants to live longer than the rest of my friends.’
In my perspective, if every dear one in my life were blessed with a lifespan reaching 120 years, I could find contentment in surpassing the century mark myself. However, considering the current state of affairs, the solitary existence symbolized by the Flying Dutchman in history is not an appealing prospect for me.
‘I’d find it incredibly distressing to learn that the person who survived has outlived everyone they were close to – their family members and friends.’
In the 2025 New Year Honors, Stephen was bestowed with knighthood, further solidifying his position as a cherished national figure.
The entertainer, performer, and host expressed feeling surprised and captivated upon winning the highest award, emphasizing that it was unexpected.
Sir Stephen, known for openly discussing his struggles with bipolar disorder following his expulsion from school, was honored for his contributions to mental health advocacy, environmental conservation, and charitable work.
Stephen expressed his wish that his knighthood might serve as a symbol to those struggling with mental health issues, demonstrating that ‘hope is never lost.’
He mentioned that he’d strive to exhibit kindness, bravery, and polite behavior, as these traits are characteristic of a noble or knightly person.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve learned that the QI presenter openly shared his struggles, which led to his dismissal from a boarding school during my youthful years and a brief imprisonment.
Later, he enrolled at Cambridge University, which is where he established a comedy troupe alongside Dame Emma Thompson, Tony Slattery, and Hugh Laurie, all of whom were members at the prestigious Footlights Club on campus.
I soared into prominence, partnering with Laurie in the comedy series A Bit of Fry & Laurie. Additionally, I shared the screen with the talented actor from House in Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder productions.
However, he struggled with a long-term condition called manic depression, a battle he has detailed extensively through his documentaries and books.
Since 2011, he assumed the role of president for the charity Mind, and since 2009, he’s served as the Vice President for the wildlife conservation charity Fauna and Flora International.
Since 1991, Stephen has been actively involved with the Terence Higgins Trust, dedicating his efforts towards increasing awareness and collecting funds for individuals affected by HIV and AIDS.
