Shocking Transformation: Karl and Jasmine Stefanovic’s $3.2 Million Castlecrag Home Reduced to Rubble!

The demolition of Karl Stefanovic and his wife Jasmine’s 1960s brick house in Sydney has been completed, paving the path for a brand-new, contemporary home, as their renovation project officially kicks off.

50-year-old co-host of The Today Show and his 40-year-old shoe designer wife have started constructing a lavish $4.5 million home in Castlecrag, which is approximately 9 km north of the city center, following a significant victory in court in March.

This week’s photos reveal that the charming three-bedroom house has been reduced to mere debris, as the demolition process is now fully accomplished.

The excavator stays put on the land, with the yard that houses the gazebo and spa left undisturbed.

Last month, the project was already in full swing. We had taken off the roof and demolished several walls, yet the house’s brick facade was still intact.

In July, Karl and Jasmine left the property, noticed as they were carrying out small personal belongings from their residence that had been their family home.

The couple intends to design their upcoming home with four floors, featuring five bedrooms and five bathrooms each. Additionally, it will include an outdoor pool and spa area.

Among other notable features in the proposed reconstruction are an open-air courtyard, a recreational space, and a spacious three-car garage.

In March, after a protracted negotiation over their initial building proposal that spanned a year, Karl and Jasmine were granted permission by Willoughby Council to proceed with their renovation project.

Following a two-day trial earlier this year, the Daily Telegraph reported that the Land and Environment Court ruled in support of the well-known duo.

The decision came after Stefanovic first lodged a DA with the council in March 2023.

Neighbors expressed a variety of worries about the couple’s plans, such as potential loss of scenic vistas and the glare from solar panel installations.

According to the celebrity couple’s legal representatives, the renovation project largely adhered to the planning regulations established by Willoughby Council.

Yet, it failed to meet the required floor plan space ratio in line with the local zoning regulations.

The initial plan, as shown in the application, was for the couple to construct approximately 102 square meters of living area beneath ground level.

Constructed back in the 1960s, this initial residence offered stunning vistas of Castlecrag’s northern cliffside. It also featured an independent living space equipped with a private entrance and a bathroom of its own.

A draft layout reveals that the completed property boasts a breathtaking modern aesthetic, ample living areas, large French doors, and an internal circular stairwell.

The blueprint indicates that the final product will showcase a captivating contemporary style, expansive interiors, French windows, and a circular stairway indoors.

Both versions convey the same information in easily understood language.

This place will feature an elegant alfresco dining area, complete with nearby steps and an array of striking architectural elements such as tall ceilings and angled windows.

An expansive garden spanning the entire house’s length is part of the plan as well, providing an ideal setting for Karl and his spouse, Jasmine, to nurture their four-year-old daughter, Harper.

The Melbourne-based architecture firm Studio Kennon additionally posted the mockup image on social media, prompting a swift response from Karl and Jasmine.

‘Can we have it nowwwww,’ asked Jasmine and Karl posted a love heart emoji.

The Channel Nine Today star bought the 1960s brick-built home in March 2021 for $3.2 million.

Karl and Jasmine, along with their children, divide their time between Sydney and Queensland.

Apart from Harper, Karl is also a father to three grown-up kids – Jackson (age 25), Willow (age 18), and River (age 19) – who he had with Cassandra Thorburn in their previous marriage.

Jasmine’s family are based in the Sunshine State, while Karl began his journalism career there.

The couple married in December 2018 in San José del Cabo, Mexico.
