Influencer Slammed for Cultural Appropriation: Geisha Rolex Stunt BackfiresInfluencer Cindy Kilian, known as Regarding Cindy, faces backlash for dressing up as a geisha in exchange for a Rolex watch.

A social media personality who hails from Canada is under fire for cultural insensitivity, following a self-congratulatory post boasting about receiving a new Rolex watch as a gift from their partner.

28-year-old Cindy Kilian, commonly known as Regarding Cindy online and boasting 1.3 million TikTok followers, shared a sequence of images on Instagram this week, showcasing her poses within a Japanese hotel room.

In the images, she wore a pink kimono with a colourful floral pattern while brandishing a hand fan.

Additionally, she flaunted a golden Rolex timepiece on her arm, sharing that this precious piece had been bestowed upon her by her significant other.

Cindy appeared to be channelling a Japanese Geisha, something she alluded to in the caption.

‘Kimono girl you better work for that Rolex,’ she wrote.

A few of her admirers have criticized her on the Facebook group “Tea Time,” claiming that she wore traditional clothing as part of a deal to receive a watch.

‘Am I the only one who is shocked she posted this?’ one person questioned.

‘It seems like yet another individual attempting to stand out by appropriating a culture as a trend or novelty, which strikes me as insincere.’

‘This is NASSSTYYYY.’

‘You should not comment on racial issues if you are not part of said race,’ a third one commented.

‘I’m shocked she thinks this is appropriate to post publicly,’ one added.

As a fervent admirer, let me share my captivation with the alluring world of geishas – these exquisite artists and gracious entertainers who’ve mastered the timeless beauty of traditional Japanese performing arts. From graceful dance moves to enchanting music and melodious songs, their skills never cease to amaze me. And what truly sets them apart is their ability to engage in captivating conversations and effortlessly host guests, making every moment unforgettable.

They provide amusement at gatherings called ozashiki, frequently catering to affluent audiences, while also performing on stages and during celebrations.

Cindy hails from Canada, where she completed her education in Fashion Arts. At the age of 22, seven years back, she relocated to Australia.

2024 saw Cindy sharing on the Ellefluential podcast about her past career in real estate in Australia, leading up to her discovery of her love for content production.

After dabbling in real estate, I found myself immersed in the world of TikTok daily, and it struck me one day: “Perhaps I could give this a try myself.

‘I love being on camera.’

Cindy has since parlayed her social media success into her own brand Resort and Rich.

She additionally shared insights about the significance of self-confidence and disregarding online critics, or “trolls,” during her podcast discussion.

You’re uniquely you, and that very uniqueness is your greatest strength,” she went on.

Once you start allowing the thoughts and opinions of others to dictate your mind, it’s important to question why. After all, their opinions about you have no bearing on who you truly are.

‘They may harass you online or simply hold different views, which is acceptable, but make sure those views don’t alter the true essence of who you are.’

She added: “Embrace self-confidence – draw on every experience from your past to shape and enhance the best possible version of yourself.

‘That is the most powerful thing about you – showing your personality.’
