Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman denies allegations of sexual assault

Note: The following article contains discussion of sexual misconduct allegations.

Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman has denied allegations of sexual assault from multiple women.

This week’s article has brought forth accusations against the author, with four of these claims having been made earlier during a 2024 podcast series on Tortoise Media titled Master.

On his website, Gaiman recently issued a statement regarding the accusations, expressing that he’s been following online rumors about him over the course of several months with shock and dismay.

I’ve held back so far, showing deference to those who were speaking up and aiming to avoid further spreading incorrect information.

Gaiman acknowledged a vague familiarity with certain instances mentioned in the statements, yet he firmly denied that other events transpired.

As a person, I’m certainly not flawless, but I want to make it clear that I’ve never crossed the line into any form of non-consensual sexual behavior. That has never been part of my life.

Gaiman stated that he re-examined the messages he exchanged with the women, asserting they “read just as they did when I first read them – about two individuals engaged in a completely consensual sexual relationship who wished to meet again.” Furthermore, he mentioned that at the time, the messages appeared positive and joyful on both ends.

He went on to say, “Looking back now, I see that I had the chance, many years ago, to do far better than I did. I wasn’t open to emotional connections while still being physically available. I was more concerned about myself and less considerate than I could or should have been.

He acknowledged that he had been thoughtless and self-centered in how he handled people’s emotions concerning him, and he’s dedicated several months to making amends by learning from his past mistakes.

Let me clarify, I’ve never participated in any form of sexual activity without consent. Some of the troubling accounts being shared currently are untrue, while others have been twisted to such an extent that they bear little resemblance to the truth.

I own up to any mistakes I’ve made and stand by the truth. I refuse to be misrepresented or seen as something I’m not, and I won’t admit to actions that I did not perform.

In 2023, a claim of sexual assault was made against Neil Gaiman, but that allegation was later withdrawn by the accuser.

After the debut of the Tortoise podcast, several of Neil Gaiman’s projects were impacted. Specifically, the filming for Good Omens season 3 was postponed. Consequently, Gaiman chose to part ways with the project, and it has since been transformed into a 90-minute special.
