David Schwimmer reveals he once served Rod Stewart his divorce papers as he recalls their awkward encounter

During a recent conversation, David Schwimmer disclosed an interesting tidbit from his past – that during his teenage years, he handed divorce documents to Sir Rod Stewart while interning over the summer. He made this revelation on Tuesday.

In his freshman year of college at age 18, the actor from “Friends,” now 58, served tables and was assigned the task of delivering court documents to a man named Rod, who was 80 years old.

In 1984, which coincided with David’s eighteenth birthday, Rod Stewart and his first wife, Alana, went through a divorce. However, it wasn’t clear at that time who was divorcing the rock legend from Rod.

A Process Server is an individual responsible for hand-delivering legal documents, particularly court summons or petitions, as their primary job duty. Upon serving your divorce papers, they will supply you with evidence detailing the time, method, and location of service delivery to the Respondent.

Referring back to the somewhat uncomfortable conversation on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, he mentioned that one summer following his first year at college, he was simply searching for employment when his mother suggested, “Why don’t you work as a process server for me?

Growing up, I often found myself serving divorce documents, as my mother was a family law attorney and I was her assistant in this regard.

At one point, I had the chance to serve Rod Stewart, and luckily, I haven’t encountered him since then. It’s uncertain if he remembers me, as I believe he might not be aware of our encounter.

Stephen made a light-hearted comment: “He’s found out about it. Better change your door keys, buddy. He’s known for his revenge. There’s a chance you might meet Rod Stewart one day, and now he’d know to give you a hard punch.

In 1984, Rod experienced a divorce. He later married model Rachel Hunter in 1990, but the marriage ended after nine years, resulting in another divorce in 2006.

Rod and his current wife Penny Lancaster have been happily married since 2007.

In the program, David shared stories about his initial and solitary experience as a host on Saturday Night Live around three decades back.

During the 21st season of SNL in 1995, the actor, who was already in his first year on Friends, became the first cast member to be invited to host the show.

During his time as SNL host, David shared that his representatives neglected to inform him about a crucial detail regarding the show’s hosting duties.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share an intriguing tidbit about my behind-the-scenes experience with the Friends cast. Every Tuesday, we’d embark on filming this iconic series, and due to the complexities of production that occasionally stretched past 1 AM, I found myself in New York City no earlier than Thursday.

As an ardent enthusiast, let me share my feelings: I was positively thrilled beyond measure about the prospect of hosting the show. However, upon arriving, the entire writing team seemed to regard me as though I’d committed some grievous indiscretion, akin to having secretly dated their mother.

He confessed that they seemed displeased upon seeing him, and he was clueless about it. Somehow, he managed to carry on for the following two days, but he was left shaken up by the experience.

When Stephen inquired about the outcome, David confessed, chuckling, “To tell you the truth, I can’t recall exactly what happened.

David mentioned that he didn’t realize he was meant to appear on Mondays for the show until many years had passed, and only then when conversing with someone else who had also hosted it.

He mentioned, “Nobody informed me about it, and for years, I remained clueless as to the reason,” further explaining that he had just been “extended an invitation to the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, scheduled for February.

Thirty years have passed, and I’m wondering if perhaps they forgot about me, or maybe they don’t care for me? Or it might be an assistant sending out emails to everyone who has ever hosted events. Regardless, I’m unsure of what to do about this situation. That’s what Schwimmer stated.

Stephen responded, ‘You should go! I worked over there for a little bit and no one invited me.’

The actor confessed that he didn’t want to end up like Charlie Brown, always getting his hopes dashed, you understand? He appeared excited, but then it turned out that he wasn’t wanted after all.
