Taylor Kitsch opening a nature retreat to honor his sister after helping her overcome opioid addiction
Taylor Kitsch is choosing to celebrate his sister Shelby Kitsch-Best’s sobriety by establishing a serene getaway in the heart of nature.
In the mid-2010s, this former star of Friday Night Lights, now aged 43, decided to take a break from work for two years to support his younger relative in overcoming their struggle with opioid and other substance addictions.
Currently, the individual who relocated from Austin, Texas to Bozeman, Montana in 2021, is endeavoring to establish an outdoor retreat. This venture serves as a tribute to her journey towards sobriety, as reported by People.
He plans to launch a retreat within the next two years, covering approximately 22 acres of his property in Bozeman, as he shared with the press.
He hadn’t realized that sober escapes were an option before his sister introduced him to them. In awe, he exclaimed, “Wow, providing individuals the opportunity to rediscover themselves amidst nature and find tranquility seems amazing!” was his sentiment.
Apart from expressing great pride, he couldn’t help but share his sentiments about his sister: “One of the things I’m most proud of in my life is standing by her and being a part of her journey that led to her success.
I couldn’t express my pride any better; I am absolutely beaming with pride for my sister, who is currently serving as a traveling nurse in vibrant Vancouver.
Aside from the sober community, Kitsch also wants the retreat to serve kids and veterans.
He mentions that the retreat offers a variety of options, such as hiking, fishing, socializing, relaxing, writing, or reading – whatever suits your fancy.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I am excitedly incorporating a traditional sweat lodge into my estate’s design. This sacred space will allow a local shaman to perform ceremonies – an incredibly beneficial practice I discovered during my preparations for my upcoming Netflix Western, American Primeval.
The series chronicles a woman’s escape as she navigates the harsh conditions of the 1857 Utah War, a conflict between Mormon settlers, U.S. troops, and Native American tribes vying for control of the Western territories in America.
In the 2023 Netflix series, ‘Painkiller’, Kitsch’s sibling acted as his consultant while he portrayed the role of Glen Kryger, an opioid addict character.
‘It’s probably the closest job to me that I’ve ever done,’ he shared of the experience.
Experiencing her by my side during that adventure was nothing short of extraordinary and deeply healing. Sharing that journey with her was simply unforgettable, and her assistance on the project was invaluable. The memories I made during that time are truly remarkable, and I take great pride in having been part of it.
Kitsch went on to share how touched he was that the role struck a chord with so many viewers.
What struck me unexpectedly as particularly moving was the number of individuals who shared a connection with his journey, whether they were striving for sobriety or had already achieved it. Truly incredible! I find myself constantly seeking tales that are worthy of being told.
He also hopes to be able to tell his sister’s story via film or TV in the future.
Previously, it was made known that Kitsch is being considered for a role in the forthcoming revival of Friday Night Lights.
For nearly six years, starting in 2006, this highly acclaimed high school sports drama graced NBC’s airwaves, earning a reputation as one of the finest ever produced for television.
In a recent interview, Taylor shared his thoughts on reprising his role as the rebellious football player, Tim Riggins, number 33, on the show.
During an interview on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, the actor who played John Carter chose to keep his response brief by saying: ‘I’ve been asked about this topic before, and I prefer not to discuss it any further.’
If directly questioned about possibly taking on the role of a coach, he replied: “Not at this time, but perhaps contributing to a revival in some capacity. It’s always an honor. I never rule anything out completely.
I might pop by and contribute, perhaps for a single episode or so. However, I’m not interested in taking on the entire project.
He commented: ‘I might as well join the festivities. Yet, I have no desire to take charge or assume responsibility. What I cherish are the ongoing, stimulating parts, and the thrill of constantly surpassing myself.’
Jessica then asked, “Shall we consider having you play the role of Riggins or perhaps a completely new character?
In response to the question, the actor from Battleship agreed, saying, “Absolutely, I’d be up for doing both. It’s an intriguing idea. I think I could develop something that could turn out to be quite entertaining.
However, I believe if you encountered me under a different identity, you might exclaim, “That’s definitely Riggins!” – particularly if we’re in Texas or if the circumstances align with their intended portrayal.
He suggested: ‘Perhaps I could act as a coach from the opposing team, appearing briefly on-screen for about eight seconds. Yes, I would certainly consider doing that.’
In November, news emerged that a fresh take on the cherished high school series, Friday Night Lights, was being planned, featuring all-new characters.
Originally, the franchise emerged from a 1990 real-life book titled “Friday Night Lights” penned by H.G. Bissinger, which delved into the world of high school football in Texas.
2004 saw the debut of a film version, featuring Billy Bob Thornton in the role of the coach, alongside actors such as Garrett Hedlund, Connie Britton, and Tim McGraw.
However, it’s the TV series featuring Connie and Kyle Chandler that gained the most recognition as the iconic portrayal of the property.
In the realm of my uncontainable enthusiasm, let me share that this show boasted some heavyweight talents – Michael B. Jordan, Jurnee Smollett, Minka Kelly, Jesse Plemons, Scott Porter, Aimee Teegarden, Zach Gilford, and Adrianna Palicki graced the screen with their presence.
In a recent revelation, Minka, who was previously Taylor’s acting companion, has shared details about their ‘harmful’ bond in her book, “Tell Me Everything.
44-year-old actress from Euphoria confessed that her tumultuous relationship with Taylor had a profound impact on her personally as well as how she interacted with fellow cast members.
In her book, she stated that all the time and energy she could have spent maintaining regular contact with the other girls on the show were devoted to Taylor instead. Consequently, when her relationship with Taylor turned sour, she found herself without anyone to confide in.
In my fangirl zeal, I can’t help but marvel at the unforgettable performances by none other than Minka, who breathed life into the spirited cheerleader Lyla. And let’s not forget Taylor, whose portrayal of her love interest on the show was nothing short of captivating!
The actress, who is currently in a relationship with Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons, confessed that she moved in with her fellow cast member, despite being advised against it by the show’s producer, Peter Berg.
