Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay breaks silence after finalizing ‘messy’ divorce from Bryan Abasolo
After completing her divorce proceedings, television personality Rachel Lindsay, known for her role on “The Bachelorette,” finally spoke out a few days later.
Abasolo, 44, filed to end their marriage in January 2024, and the divorce has been contentious.
Previously, Lindsay, who is now 39 years old, described their divorce as being “unnecessarily complicated” because they didn’t have a prenuptial agreement in place.
During the past weekend, I, as a devoted follower, observed that the reality TV star – who has recently fueled romance speculation with country singer Willie Jones – expressed her views publicly for the first time since the divorce was officially completed. She disclosed that she would opt for a prenuptial agreement in any future marriage to avoid similar complications experienced during her previous union.
She mentioned, “I’m no longer married. I appreciate it, God,” during the latest installment of her podcast, Higher Learning. “Play some liberation tunes for me. Let’s have some songs about independence.
As soon as he stepped outside, having stayed for seven months following our separation, I truly felt like we were divorced,” she admitted honestly, implying that there was much more she wished to express.
When it comes to our divorce, Rachel shared, “I ended up making compromises I wasn’t entirely comfortable with. But let me tell you, my mental well-being was worth every penny in the long run.
‘I’m eager to begin the reconstruction process and make progress, and I’m ready to take action now. This sense of being able to start anew feels fantastic.’
She continued: “I’ve been silent, but I plan to speak up and I’m working through everything I want to discuss. There are numerous points I wish to bring up.
Reflecting on my past experiences, I’ve come to a point where I firmly believe that I wouldn’t enter into another marriage without a prenuptial agreement. However, the lessons I’ve learned from this have shifted my entire perspective on relationships and commitment. Frankly, I’m not sure if I would remarry at all. The idea seems almost unimaginable to me now.
Approximately a year following the submission of their divorce papers, Lindsay and Abasolo’s marriage legally terminated.
Last Tuesday, as reported by Page Six, the pair who initially connected and later fell for each other during Lindsay’s season on The Bachelorette, officially ended their marriage.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share this intriguing detail: Over the summer, it was decided that due to their lack of a prenuptial agreement, my beloved duo found themselves in a situation where Lindsay was obliged to part with a substantial sum every month – a cool $13k, if you will, destined for Abasolo. This temporary spousal support, I must say, adds another layer to their captivating story.
According to recent court records, Abasolo is no longer requiring Lindsay to make any further payments that were previously due.
Documents obtained by Us Weekly also show that Lindsay still owes $460,229 to her ex.
It’s been granted that Abasolo can retain several personal belongings, such as his wedding ring, the 2021 Honda Accord, and his home in Miami.
Regarding Lindsay, she’ll be retaining the Neil Lane engagement ring, along with a 2023 Porsche Macan and her residence in North Hollywood.
Besides covering their own legal costs, it’s important to note that this ruling doesn’t affect the $20,000 Lindsay previously paid for Abasolo’s lawyer, as reported by Page Six.
Lindsay and Abasolo met on The Bachelor in 2017 and tied the knot in 2019.
They called it quits in December 2023 after four years of marriage.
Recently, Lindsay spoke about noticing red flags in her relationship with her ex but ignoring them.
On an episode of The View, which aired on December 3, she admitted she was ‘wrapped up in shame.’
‘I know this all too well right now,’ she confessed to the talk show hosts.
She mentioned that for those unfamiliar, she met her former partner on the Bachelor show. At present, they are navigating through a divorce process, which she finds intriguing.
‘We met, we dated for two and a half years, we went and got married,’ she recalled.
She shared, “Our bond was often seen as one of the thriving partnerships born on the program. Wherever I ventured, folks would inquire about our relationship.
You may find yourself feeling compelled to present an image of everything being okay in public, while in private, things might not be as rosy. This could be because you’re dealing with challenges, having a tough day, or simply working on something. It’s important to remember that it’s okay not to always have things perfect.
She went on to explain: ‘Much of it revolves around feelings of shame. You prefer not to admit that it slipped. You’re fearful, wanting to avoid being perceived differently by others.’
Lindsay has regretted not getting a prenup.
In a recent interview on the Hidden Gems With Natasha Parker podcast, the celebrity disclosed that many ask him, “Since you’re a lawyer, do you have a prenuptial agreement?” However, he shared that he does not possess one.
She clarified the reasons behind her lack of action, stating, “I chose not to act because my current financial situation is significantly different from what it was when I got married. Back then, our finances were more balanced, and I wasn’t living in California.
Lindsay asserts that she suggested a prenuptial agreement to her former fiancé, expressing her belief in its merit. However, they apparently had differing views on this matter.
Referring to the fact that they got married in August 2019, which was a different period, she confessed that she made decisions based on feelings rather than reason.
She mentioned that she preferred to keep the matter small, so they didn’t address it, but looking back, she wishes she had dealt with it.
