HEROIC enters new CS2 era with benched Falcons sniper, ex-Sangal core
HEROIC have secured key VRS invites with the Sangal core, plus two former Falcons join the fray.
Today, the Danish organization HEROIC has confirmed they will continue participating in CS:2. They announced their 2025 roster, which includes Álvaro “SunPayus” García from the benched Falcons AWPer and three members of the Turkish squad Sangal.
SunPayus will team up with Linus “LNZ” Holtäng, Simon “yxngstxr” Boije, Yasin “xfl0ud” Koç, and Andrey “tN1R” Tatarinovich for the BLAST qualifier. Meanwhile, HEROIC has added Pavle “maden” Bošković and Linus “nilo” Bergman (a Metizport standout) to their reserves for the event. Essentially, HEROIC is undergoing a complete roster change following the offseason departure of their main players, who were recruited by Falcons and Team Liquid.
Ex-Sangal core to lead HEROIC roster into 2025
According to HLTV and Sheep Esports’ recent reports, their predictions were correct as HEROIC confirmed their team for the upcoming BLAST Bounty qualifier (and the following year). The team’s lineup was officially unveiled today on Twitter.
In the offseason, SunPayus has been the hot topic everywhere. His transfer from ENCE to Falcons caught everyone’s attention, but the collaboration didn’t pan out as expected, only yielding a top four finish at IEM Katowice and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade.
In September 2024, SunPayus was temporarily removed from the Falcons team. For the rest of the season, he mostly watched games from the sidelines. However, his HLTV rating of 1.10 for 2024 (which matched that of 2023) suggests that the 26-year-old still possesses a significant amount of potential and skills.
At HEROIC, he will be accompanied by the strong team from Sangal, which includes yxngstxr, xfl0ud, and other members. Known as one of the top-notch tier two groups, Sangal gained recognition throughout the year with multiple online victories and lower-tier offline performances. The only time Sangal reached the S-tier was at ESL Pro League Season 20, where they faced elimination in the group stage by none other than HEROIC.
Sangal has bid farewell to their player Samet “jjk” Köklü, who moved to rival Turkish team Eternal Fire. The leader of our squad, LNZ, ascended through Ninjas in Pyjamas’ training program, while yxngstxr and nilo, both Swedish players, share a past with Metizport – they represented the team during their CS:GO and CS2 era at separate times.
Regarding xfl0ud, who was often seen as the rising star following İsmailçan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş in the Turkish CS:GO scene, he failed to make the most of his opportunities on Eternal Fire, leading to his transfer to Project G and Sangal. In these teams, he established himself as a reliable support rifler, earning a 1.02 rating in 2024.
Initially, it was thought that Nilo would kick off as the fifth player for the fresh HEROIC CS2 squad, but the organization decided to go with tN1R instead, who played for both FORZE and GUN5 during the year 2024.
