Dexter actress Courtney Ford and estranged husband Brandon Routh break their silence on divorce filing

Courtney Ford and her separated spouse, Brandon Routh, have decided to speak up following the recent submission of divorce papers by Ford earlier this week.

46-year-old Ford and 45-year-old Routh posted a unified message on their respective Instagram accounts on Thursday following widespread surprise at the news of their separation from the cast of Legends of Tomorrow.

Ford stated that due to the urgent need for them to evacuate from raging fires in certain Los Angeles neighborhoods, the pair had to postpone their plans for addressing their separation.

As a grateful pair who’ve been fortunate to experience two decades of love and support from you all, I feel compelled to share some intimate news. After 21 years side by side, and 17 years as husband and wife, we are embarking on a fresh adventure. This next phase of life will find us navigating it together, not just as partners, but as friends and dedicated co-parents.

They went on to say, “Right now and in the future, we’re supporting one another every step of the way as we journey through this exciting yet unpredictable experience called life.” Additionally, they emphasized that their child remains their top priority, and they ask for patience as they manage this change together.

The new exes signed off with ‘love and gratitude’ for their fans.

Ford painted a detailed portrait of their chaotic past few days, which included battling the wildfires in Los Angeles and her recent divorce proceedings.

‘We were focused on grabbing our go-bags and evacuating yesterday,’ she explained in her caption.

Ford found it absurd to disseminate their statement while fires continued to blaze throughout the area, yet the news spread faster than anticipated.

She also mentioned that we’re secure, yet deeply affected with sorrow and dismay due to our friends who have sadly lost their homes and establishments. The destruction brought about by these persistent fires has left a heavy toll on our beloved community, which pains us greatly. Our affection for you, Los Angeles, remains unwavering ❤️.

Additionally, Ford mentioned she was including useful resources for those impacted by the fires in the description section of her Instagram profile.

On Wednesday, it was reported by TMZ that the actress from Dexter filed for divorce, stating ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the cause of the separation between her and her partner.

According to a report, she didn’t specify an official separation date with the actor from Superman Returns.

The couple got married in 2007 and have been together for over two decades.

According to the court documents, Ford is requesting shared legal and residential custody for their 11-year-old son, Leo James, who they both had in 2012.

Additionally, she’s aiming for alimony from Routh, and she has requested that the court refuse to grant him any alimony as well.

The estranged couple have been married for 17 years and together for nearly 22 years total.

For a span of three years, they went out together, got engaged for a year, and finally got married on November 2007 at the El Capitan Ranch located in Santa Barbara.

In the realm of cinema, I’m recognized for donning the iconic cape as Superman in the 2006 cinematic rendition titled Superman Returns. Sharing the silver screen with me were the talented Kate Bosworth and the esteemed Kevin Spacey in this memorable production.

He later reprised the role as part of the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths TV event.

Currently, Ford boasts acting roles in popular television series like Dexter, True Blood, Parenthood, and Supernatural.

The former pair who are no longer in a relationship were team members on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but they left the show after season five had concluded.

Routh starred on the show from the debut season in 2016 to 2022 while Ford joined in season three.

As reported by Deadline, they chose to part ways with the show due to a creative choice to conclude Ray Palmer’s and The Atom’s storyline involving Nora Darhk.

Mirroring real life, Routh and Ford’s characters are romantically linked on the show.

In the third season of Arrow, Routh’s character debuted, and later on, this character was seen on The Flash as well.

When the beloved character was written off in season five, both he and fans were blindsided.

Over the recent episodes featuring Ray and Nora, they chose to tie the knot and abandoned the Waverider as they embarked on a new phase in their lives together.

In a conversation with TV Insider, Routh expressed his and Ford’s feelings on their departure.

He confessed that neither of them had made the choice to leave, but instead, it was showrunner Phil Klemmer who determined it was the right moment for both of us to depart.

Absolutely. At the beginning of the season, I received a surprising phone call about the circumstances… This news came as quite a surprise to us, as I’d always been open and honest with the producers regarding our experiences.

‘This was sprung upon me without communication. So that was a challenging thing.’

Later on, Routh reappeared in the Arrowverse during its grand crossover event featuring three distinct versions of Superman.

Or:
Routh made a comeback in the Arrowverse’s large-scale crossover event, starring three separate portrayals of Superman.

Or:
After some time away, Routh rejoined the Arrowverse for its massive crossover, showcasing three unique renditions of Superman.

He put on his suit, representing his Man of Steel character from Superman Returns in 2006, to join forces with Tom Wellington’s version from Smallville and Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal from the Superman series in the Arrowverse.
