Mel Gibson slams Gavin Newsom amid LA fires in scathing rant on Joe Rogan podcast
In a fiery outburst on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Mel Gibson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom over the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles that have displaced numerous celebrities.
In an interview on a widely-viewed online talk show, the 69-year-old seasoned actor criticized the democratic politician when he was unexpectedly confronted by a woman seeking information about wildfires – this incident elicited a surprising response from him, which the actor addressed during their meeting on Thursday.
During their conversation, Gibson didn’t hold back in his harsh criticism of Newsom. This was evident in his fiery verbal attack. The 57-year-old UFC commentator was there to listen.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my dismay. When the actor spoke, he quoted Newsom saying, “I’m going to tend to the forest and preserve it, and all those kinds of things.” Yet, it seems to me, nothing of the sort has been accomplished.
Rogan expressed his opinion that, rather than fire prevention efforts, the California Governor chose to use tax money for assisting the homeless community.
During their conversation, the director of “The Passion of the Christ” playfully commented, “I believe our taxes might have been used for Gavin’s hair gel.
Meanwhile, Gibson shares his personal perspective on the Los Angeles fires, unsure about the status of his house in Malibu, which remains under threat during this crisis.
The actor said: ‘All those earmarks, the precursors of a collapse, they’re present in our time.’
According to the actor from Braveheart, it doesn’t take much time for a civilization to undergo collapse, as suggested in Jared Diamond’s 2011 book “Collapse: How Societies Choose To Fail Or Succeed.
Gibson explained: ‘It says all the things you need for a civilization to cave in and collapse.
‘It’s an interesting observation. And we’re no smarter than our grandparents.’
Later, Gibson was told by his son Milo, a volunteer firefighter in Malibu, about the status of their neighborhood.
He told me: ‘His video showed our neighborhood on fire, it seemed as if it was engulfed by a massive blaze.’
Rogan wondered if this could be the decisive factor that might eventually lead him to leave the state of California for good.
Instead of Los Angeles, Gibson mentioned that he’d prefer going to Costa Rica since he adores it.
The number of deaths from the historic wildfires has risen to six, with brave firefighters continuing their valiant efforts in extremely challenging conditions on the battlefront of at least five separate blazes.
Catastrophic blazes swept through the exclusive neighborhood of Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, swiftly extending to neighboring suburbs due to a windstorm scattering sparks and debris everywhere.
People hurriedly left their homes, holding their breath in anticipation for updates, as it became known that entire neighborhoods had vanished, firefighters were nearing exhaustion of water supplies, and efforts were being redirected to combat the spreading flames from various directions.
This happened while Newson found himself struggling to respond, having been pursued by an anxious Los Angeles mother seeking explanations regarding the urban fires that were devastating the city.
On Thursday, the Governor of California expressed his apologies and stated that he was attempting to contact the President over the phone when he encountered an emotionally distraught woman.
Large parts of the city continued to burn, with countless homes and businesses already reduced to ashes due to the destructive fires.
During the intense questioning that lasted nearly two grueling minutes, Newsom failed to offer a clear answer regarding the recovery plan.
‘Governor that was my daughter’s school,’ the mom cried as she ran over to Newsom’s vehicle.
Newson responded, “I’m directly conversing with the president at this moment to specifically address your question regarding actions that could be taken for you and your daughter.
As a committed follower, I found myself in a position where I had to disclose that I hadn’t managed to connect with the president yet, when she inquired about her involvement in the call, during my conversation with the Governor.
Newsom stated that he had attempted to make the call on five separate occasions,” which led the woman to question why the president hasn’t returned his call yet.
He mentioned that it wasn’t working out for him, as he needed cell service. This statement, however, just made the determined mother more adamant about being present when he finally does get it.
Newsom expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “I’m truly heartbroken for you, and I cannot stress enough how sorry I am, particularly for your daughter.” He added, “As a father of four, I can only imagine the pain of losing a place like a school…
The mother interjected, “Those who attended that school, unfortunately, lost two homes since they resided in one home or another.” Then, she posed a question, “Why were the fire hydrants dry, Governor?
During the ongoing conversation, Newsom promised that things would change ‘the next time’ without providing specifics.
The woman asked insistently, “Could you go ahead and refill those fire hydrants, wouldn’t you?” She was pressing Newson, who was growing uneasy, to say that he would take care of it himself. However, Newson maintained his stance, replying, “I will do whatever needs to be done.
However, that’s not the case! The resident suddenly became agitated, explaining that there was a source of ‘dripping water’ in close proximity that they could utilize instead.
Afterward, Newsom began getting into the car while the woman persisted in asking for his contact information.
Her worries mirror those of numerous residents in Los Angeles, who have raised doubts about the handling of the wildfires that have tragically taken six lives and destroyed over 2,000 structures.
On Thursday, Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles attempted to counter accusations that fire hydrants had run dry, instead stating that they were indeed full, however, they were not intended to handle a catastrophe of such magnitude.
On the third straight day, her remarks were made as the fires persisted, eventually making the Pacific Palisades blaze the most destructive in the county’s record books.
Almost 180,000 people are under evacuation orders, with hundreds of thousands still without power.
