On the January 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, the AEW Women’s Division will feature a significant match: the inaugural Women’s Casino Gauntlet Battle Royale. This event promises to determine a new number one challenger for Mariah May’s AEW Women’s World Championship. Given the impressive lineup and potential returns, it seems ideal to grant Tay Melo a massive victory in this high-stakes contest.
All Elite Wrestling boasts an impressive roster brimming with top-tier female wrestlers. It’s no wonder fans are insistent on Tony Khan providing this talented cohort more screen time on AEW’s programs. Despite the lack of such exposure, AEW has managed to create what could be the most exceptional women’s division in wrestling.
As we enter a brand-new year, it’s high time for us to regain the leading position in our division, and this upcoming game offers the ideal platform for such an endeavor. It promises some intriguing twists, and the comeback of Melo to AEW is undoubtedly one of those exciting developments.
2023 saw Melo’s final bout in AEW, with her stepping away from wrestling soon after for maternity leave to welcome her first child. Known as one of the most progressing wrestlers on the AEW roster prior to her departure, Melo displayed a great deal of potential that was initially recognized during her time with WWE NXT. Despite not winning any championships in All Elite Wrestling, Melo’s career trajectory was on an upward trend.
Watching Mariah May claim victory in the gauntlet not only brings a new champion to the forefront of the division, but it also introduces a fresh face who can potentially challenge the current champions. As Mariah May prepares for her upcoming match with Toni Storm, there’s a growing need to expand the roster of credible threats in the division. Both Mariah May and Mercedes Mone are being positioned as formidable champions, which is logical. If Mariah May emerges victorious on January 15, she could become a beloved addition to the list of top-tier contenders.
More recently, Melo made her comeback at Stardom New Year Dream on January 3, teaming up with Mina Shirakawa against ATHENA and Thekla. Although their effort didn’t result in a win, fans were pleased to see her back in action and eagerly anticipate her return to AEW, as they believe she performed well during her comebatch.
As an avid fan, I firmly believe it’s high time AEW gives the women’s division a fresh, exciting look. The Women’s Casino Gauntlet match seems perfectly poised to bring about this change. If Tay Melo manages to make a triumphant return and win, it would be a pivotal moment that sets the pace for an invigorating start in 2025.
