Good Morning Britain hit with hundreds of Ofcom complaints over fat-shaming comment
This morning’s broadcast on “Good Morning Britain” has received numerous complaints from viewers, mainly due to allegations that host Adil Ray made disparaging comments about darts player Luke Littler, which some perceive as body shaming or weight-related criticism.
During last Thursday’s (January 2nd) episode of the ITV program, they featured Little’s journey towards the semifinals of the 2025 World Darts Championship. Remarkably, this youngster ended up triumphing in the tournament.
Before mentioning what might be an unpopular opinion, Ray commented: “I must confess I have some concerns regarding Little. At his age of 17, he bears a resemblance to a seasoned darts player.
Check him out! He openly talks about eating pizzas before games and then plays computer games. To be honest, I can’t help but feel a bit concerned.” Kate Garraway chimes in, reassuring that there’s no need to worry since Littler is quite accomplished.
He will likely continue to become even more successful,” he said, “but I hope he doesn’t overdo it and compromise his health.” As for advice, he suggested visiting Garraway in Littler’s dressing room with a carrot to observe the reaction.
Right before the match ended, Ray handed over a fresh salad from Pret A Manger, saying so with a smile. This simple gesture resulted in laughter between them, causing 311 complaints to be filed with the Ofcom regulatory body, as reported by The Mirror.
The interaction drew criticism on social media platforms, where one individual voiced their disapproval via Twitter: “Adil Ray apparently making casual body-shaming comments towards a 17-year-old on Good Morning Britain. He should feel embarrassed about this behavior #gmb #goodmorningbritain
1 User expressed similar feelings, stating: “I was appalled by Adil Ray body-shaming a 17-year-old on #GoodMorning Britain!”, while another commented: “Adil Ray body-shamed a young athlete … ‘Try some salad’ #GMB” (Note that the phrase “fat shaming” was replaced with “body-shaming” to reflect a broader range of potential body-image issues beyond weight, and the suggested food item was changed to “salad” for clarity and positivity.)
Good Morning Britain airs on ITV.
