Transformers: Reactivate Has Been Cancelled as Developer Splash Damage Scales Down to Focus on Other Projects
Splash Damage Studio has made public that they’ve scrapped the project named Transformers: Reactivate due to their decision to shrink operations and reorient towards “different ventures”. While specifics about these ventures are not yet disclosed, it is presumed that one of them might be their AAA open-world survival game known as Project Astrid.
Today, I regret to inform you that we’ve made a tough call: we’re discontinuing the development of Transformers: Reactivate. This decision allows us to redirect our resources towards other ongoing projects. However, this change may unfortunately impact several positions within the studio, potentially leading to layoffs.
The text implies that the studio didn’t make the choice to cancel its latest “Transformers” game casually. They acknowledge that this is a tough period for the studio and its team. Furthermore, they acknowledge Hasbro, the intellectual property owners of “Transformers,” as an exceptional and supportive partner. Lastly, they express gratitude towards the team behind “Transformers: Reactivate” for their unwavering dedication and passion.
Though it’s disappointing that we can’t complete the game, it’s saying farewell to my team that causes the most sorrow. Right now, our priority is to help them get through this difficult time, and also to nurture those who will continue their journey with us as we work towards a stronger Splash Damage in the future.
Back in December 2022, it was officially revealed that the game, titled “Transformers: Reactivate”, would be a cooperative multiplayer action game, playable by up to four individuals, over the internet.
