Actor Tom Brittney, known for his role in Grantchester, will reportedly bring tears to viewers’ eyes tonight (January 8), as he departs from the popular ITV series.

Since the year 2019, the actor has been portraying the character of Reverend Will Davenport in the show “Grantchester,” taking over from James Norton who previously played Reverend Sidney Chambers.

However, Brittney has now decided to leave his dog collar behind as the show reaches season nine.

On the Wednesday edition of This Morning, Brittney admitted that he experienced an emotional day on set while shooting his last scenes, resulting in tears.

Brittney shared about the intense emotions she experienced during her final scenes for “Grantchester,” as she acted alongside her co-star, Robson Green.

Before we started filming, we shed tears and said, ‘Let’s hold back, let’s save it for the scene.’ Yes, it was truly emotional.

In her statement about departing from the show, Brittney expressed: “After being part of five incredible series, I’ve experienced the best times imaginable. However, as they say, all good things must eventually conclude.

“I thought Will’s journey had come to an end and it was time for some new blood.”

The recently cast newcomer for the role of the latest vicar in Grantchester, Alphy Kottaram, is Rishi Nair, a previous star from Hollyoaks.

Nair said he feels nervous to be taking over as the new lead in such a popular show.

As I stepped into this gaming world, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of responsibility on my shoulders. I didn’t sign up to be the one who jumped in, only to shut things down again.

Brittney comforted the newcomer by sharing her initial concerns: “Just like you, I felt anxious taking over from James Norton, thinking ‘I might ruin the show’.

As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement as I eagerly await the premiere of season 9 of Grantchester, airing on ITV1 at 9pm sharp on January 8th! For those who need a refresher or are new to this captivating series, all eight seasons are available for streaming on ITVX.
