Candiace Dillard criticized Allison Holker for openly discussing the addiction issues of her deceased husband, Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss.

On Tuesday, a former star of “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” who is 38 years old, posted on X, saying, “I won’t even mention it, but this white woman is taking actions that are far from safeguarding her Black children and the legacy of her Black husband.

Dillard added, ‘She could’ve kept this in her therapist’s office. SMH.’

Alongside the article was a link to an interview given by Holker (age 36) to People magazine, where she revealed that Boss (deceased at 40 in December 2022) had concealed a vast quantity of drugs from her.

In response to the comment suggesting that Holker’s purpose may have been to educate about mental illness and drug abuse, raise awareness, identify symptoms, and reduce the associated stigma, Dillard countered by saying that perhaps Holker could have opted for a different platform instead.

In her writing, she suggested that it would have been effortless for her to pass on this heart-wrenching tale of a Black man’s struggle to magazines like Essence or Ebony, where they would handle such a sensitive story with the care and attention it deserves.

During a recent interview, Holker disclosed that she uncovered various types of illicit substances – such as mushrooms, pills, and unknown substances she needed to research on her phone – hidden inside her late husband’s shoe boxes, several weeks following his passing.

She mentioned that she was with a very close friend of hers, and they were sorting through his wardrobe and choosing an appropriate attire for the funeral, she disclosed.

She shared that a surprising moment occurred for her, as she found numerous items hidden in the closet which she hadn’t known about before. This revelation left her feeling quite alarmed, since it exposed a great deal of activity that was completely unknown to her.

The skilled dancer shared that despite the incident being a genuinely terrifying experience for her, it provided an opportunity for her to understand and cope with the fact that he was struggling immensely and concealing his troubles. It seemed likely that there was a significant amount of embarrassment or shame associated with his situation.

Holker was convinced that the duo maintained extremely open communication, as she disclosed that she learned about Boss’ marijuana use after their children – Weslie (Holker’s daughter from a past relationship whom Boss adopted), Maddox, and Zaia – had gone to sleep.

‘That was his alone time. It was his time to recharge, and that was okay,’ she shared.

In her continued disclosure, Holker shared an insight: Upon delving into his diaries in search of resolution, she uncovered several instances where Boss hinted at experiencing sexual abuse by a male authority figure during his formative years, as mentioned in various journal entries.

He was deeply grappling with his inner turmoil, seeking solace through personal means as he struggled to deal with intense emotions. He felt reluctant to burden others due to his profound love for them.

Holker, now publicly linked to Adam Edmunds on Instagram, shared that her deceased spouse had wished for others not to bear his suffering.

Speaking about her upcoming memoir, ‘This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light’, Holker expressed that she was revealing Boss’s challenges in hope that those facing similar situations would find the courage to step out of the shadows and understand they will be alright.

Elsewhere in the interview she shared the last words Boss said to their eldest daughter Weslie.

On the day Boss disappeared, it was disclosed that Holker had previously driven Weslie to school, and said to her, ‘If only I could be your Superman.’

The mother of three expressed, “It’s incredibly difficult when someone says something to you that seems wrong or troubling at the moment, but you didn’t fully comprehend it then, particularly during teenage years.” She continued, “She manages this situation with a poise that is beyond what one might expect.

Holker also revealed she and her kids began intense therapy in 2023.

We made efforts to assist Weslie, engage with her, ensure she felt recognized, and understood.

Weslie was the one who last saw Boss alive, and Holker explained, “I believe she views those words as something both beautiful and repugnant. It’s a struggle she’ll continually grapple with within herself, yet I am confident she can understand it from multiple perspectives.

Boss’ widow said that therapy helps her deal with her grief.

We won’t find answers or resolution in this situation, neither for me nor my children. This reality continues to puzzle and confound me, which is why therapy has been such a lifeline.

Known primarily for his work as a disc jockey on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Boss tragically took his own life with a gunshot wound at a Los Angeles motel when he was just 40 years old in 2022.

In December 2022, he stayed at the Oak Tree Inn, a location just a short 15-minute stroll away from his home in Encino (a suburb of Los Angeles), and took his own life there.

The next morning, a distressed maid found him in a bloody bathtub, having unfortunately met with an accident during his stay at the motel.

Only a few weeks prior to his passing, Boss and Holker expressed their desire for another child during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

In 2010, Holker and Boss first crossed paths on the set of So You Think You Can Dance, and they tied the knot in 2013, a year prior to him securing his position as the cherished DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Since then, Holker has advanced into a relationship with Adam, who is the chief executive officer at Entrata, a software company specializing in property management.

At the Alice + Olivia Spring 2025 show during New York Fashion Week, they publicly declared their relationship on the red carpet as they posed together.

In December, Holker shared an emotional Instagram message as she neared two significant dates: the tenth anniversary of her marriage to Boss, and the third anniversary of his passing, which fell just three days later.

In simpler terms, she expressed that grief persists, yet each difficult phase eventually comes to a close. Continue with faith and keep moving, just as one dances through life.

Next month, on Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files, she disclosed her willingness to consider dating once more.

She shared, “I struggled immensely to embrace myself once more and to find love within myself again… it was an intricate predicament I found myself caught up in.

It required much time for me to embrace all those intricacies and aspects, but in the end, I find myself deeply appreciating life.

When the topic of a potential new partner was brought up, she responded: “I wouldn’t avoid it, that’s certain. As for actively seeking it, I can’t say for sure…yet, I’m not avoiding it.

Holker’s autobiography, “This Far: My Journey of Love, Grief, and Finding Hope,” is set to release on February 4th.
