BBC’s Clive Myrie issues health update as viewers express concern
Clive Myrie, a well-known figure at BBC News, has provided an update following comments from viewers who expressed worry about his wellbeing during his live appearances.
In the broadcast on January 6th, the newsreader seemed to have a noticeably larger left eye that suggested swelling.
After going online, numerous individuals voiced their concerns, with one individual tweeting on X/Twitter: “Are you alright, Clive Myrie? It appears his left eye might be swollen.
“Is there something affecting Clive Myrie’s right eye tonight?” asked one person, while another inquired, “Could BBC News be checking on Clive Myrie’s wellbeing? His eye appears to be swollen more than normal tonight.
Indeed, Myrie took the time to ease everyone’s concerns by stating that he is fortunately fine. In a social media update, he disclosed that he was dealing with a mild infection.
As we bid farewell to this year and welcome a new one, I want to express my gratitude to everyone for their kind concerns about my left eye. It turns out to be merely an infection, not something severe. Initially, the idea of sporting an eye patch crossed my mind, but alas, my superior vetoed it!
He went on to joke: “A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”
Additionally, it’s worth noting that last year, Myrie disclosed he encountered racial slurs and deadly threats throughout his professional journey. He detailed one instance where a particular offender, eventually brought to justice, left him feeling extremely unsettled.
He shared on BBC Radio 4’s “Desert Island Discs” how another individual made threats against his life, discussing specific details like the type of ammunition they would use with a gun. This person was subsequently found and brought to justice for these menacing statements.
Initially, I felt quite unsettled upon hearing the news, but then I reasoned that perhaps it was simply an act of boastfulness or bluster.
After finding this individual, it was discovered that he had past records of violations related to firearm crimes. This led me to wonder, “Oh my goodness, could there be any plans this person may have been contemplating?
In October, Myrie offered an apology to the BBC when it was discovered that he hadn’t disclosed £60,000 worth of income from sources other than the corporation.
