Lisa Wilkinson's surprising connection to comedian and Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser

Lisa Wilkinson has revealed her close friendship with Nikki Glaser.

On Tuesday, Andy Samberg, the American comedian who hosted the Golden Globes on Sunday evening, revealed that he’s close friends with the ex-host of The Project.

The 65-year-old shared a selfie in which she cuddled up to the 40-year-old funny woman.

I’m so incredibly proud of my amazing friend Nikki Glass, who did an outstanding job as the first solo female host of the Golden Globes last night!” – Lisa wrote.

Later, she detailed that they had first crossed paths ‘many moons back through her friend Andy Lee’ during a time when she and Karl Stefanovic were both in New York for the Today show.

One unforgettable evening found me nestled within the hallowed halls of the Greenwich Village Comedy Club. That night, Nikki, a comedian extraordinaire, captivated the audience each time she graced the stage. Since then, her career has gone from strength to strength, reaching new heights. I was Lisa, sharing this experience.

Speaking of exciting events, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be endorsing Nikki’s forthcoming standup comedy tour, titled “Alive and Unwell.” This dynamic performance begins its journey right here in Australia and New Zealand come July! Can’t wait for you all to join the fun.

Lisa assured, “Don’t delay; these tickets won’t stay long…I guarantee, it’s going to be a fantastic evening out, unlike any other you’ve experienced in ages!

It comes after Lisa shared a look back at her life in recent years as she faces a new horizon.

On Sunday, the well-known TV personality shared an Instagram video highlighting events from 2022 and beyond, since their contract with Channel Ten has come to an end.

After formally concluding my tenure at Channel Ten (and the past few years having been quite tough), there were still many enjoyable moments, as she expressed in her post’s caption.

‘Here’s to 2025, and new beginnings,’ the 65-year-old added.

Lisa’s photos included glimpses at her time on The Project, which she left in November 2022.

I couldn’t help but flash a bright smile as I snapped a delightful selfie with my former colleague, the radiant Carrie Bickmore, both of us having moved on from The Project. Additionally, I found myself cozying up to Hamish Macdonald in a warm embrace.

Following a two-year sabbatical earning approximately $1.7 million annually, Wilkinson’s tenure at Channel Ten concluded quietly during the Christmas season.

Her multi-year contract lapsed on New Year’s Eve and wasn’t renewed.

In 2018, following a well-known salary disagreement at Channel Nine, Wilkinson decided to join the network because she found out that her co-host, Karl Stefanovic, was being paid substantially more than her on the Today show.

Everything was going well when she signed a new deal with Ten in 2021.

However, only a year afterwards, she chose to resign from her position as The Project’s host – her only on-screen role – due to the exhausting and focused media scrutiny she was facing.

For the past two years, even though she was absent from our screens, she still received a monthly salary from Ten, a network often overlooked in commercial television. This was so, despite widespread budget reductions across the industry.

Wilkinson has since since been slowly building back her public image.

Over the past few months, the controversial TV personality has subtly attended several high-profile events on the red carpet, and was spotted at an exclusive gathering for popular online influencers last year.

Visitors were taken aback at the unveiling event for Vegamour’s latest GRO+ Advanced Hair Serum, held at Bondi Icebergs, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The star appeared both calm and joyful as she socialized with famous attendees like Simone Holtznagel and Amy Castano.

In my latest endeavor, I found myself stepping out once more, aiming to re-immerse myself in the vibrant Sydney social circle – as reported by the press.

In August, Lisa beamed with joy as she walked the red carpet at the premiere of Sunset Boulevard in Sydney.

Despite facing challenges, the beleaguered TV personality arrived with radiant energy at the iconic Sydney Opera House, making a stylish and captivating appearance.

Towards the end of August, she joined forces with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Cauliflower Club’s rugby luncheon.

In March, Wilkinson stepped out for the opening night of & Juliet in Sydney.

According to reports, it appears that Lisa is planning to come back on TV after being away for several months, and she recently spent five weeks in court.

According to reports from The Weekend Australian, the popular morning TV host formerly on Channel 10 expresses eagerness to resume conducting high-impact interviews starting in the New Year, as shared by close associates.

In November 2022, Wilkinson left The Project, although her contract with Ten extends until the end of 2024, she has been absent from the channel for more than a year now.

Even though she took a break from television for a while, Wilkinson has kept her visibility high by being involved in a high-profile defamation case that attracted much attention.

Involved in a lawsuit along with Bruce Lehrmann, who took legal action against both Network 10 and Wilkinson, due to the airing of an interview with Brittany Higgins on The Project and its online platforms.

During the last five weeks of the judicial year, the defamation case unfolded in the court. Judge Lee has yet to announce his verdict on the case.

Supporters of Wilkinson argue that her frequent court appearances have benefited her as a celebrity, providing her with a consistent flow of media attention.

In essence, Peter Meakin shared with The Weekend Australian that although she has been absent from television for some time, it’s unlikely that her fans would have forgotten her.

‘I’m sure her loyal followers will remain loyal.’

Network Ten maintains they are in talks to develop ‘other projects’ with Wilkinson.
