Demi Moore marks first-ever acting award win with emotional speech
Demi Moore expressed heartfelt emotions after receiving her initial significant award victory, referring to herself as both humbled and thankful.
At the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, Moore won the Best Actress – Musical or Comedy category for her outstanding portrayal of Elisabeth Sparkle in the movie “The Substance“.
After her successful achievement, Moore – who has previously been recognized in films such as Ghost and A Few Good Men – spoke from the heart during her speech, taking a moment to appreciate her first significant award win of her 40-year career.
She expressed her surprise by saying, “I didn’t anticipate this at all,” she admitted. “At the moment, I’m utterly speechless! You see, I’ve been in this field for around 45 years, and this is my first victory as an actor. It leaves me feeling incredibly humbled and deeply thankful.
30 years ago, a producer labeled me as a ‘popcorn actress.’ This term, back then, felt like a restriction, implying that I couldn’t star in films that garnered success and substantial profits.
Moore expressed that his comments had gradually eroded her, reaching a point where she contemplated a few years ago whether she might be finished – if she’d accomplished all she was meant to.
Moore mentioned that she was at a particularly challenging phase when the daring, enchanting, brave, and unconventional, utterly extraordinary script of “The Substance” caught her eye.
She added that the “universe had told her” that she was “not done”.
Later on, Moore expressed gratitude towards director Coralie Fargeat and actress Margaret Qualley for taking good care of her.
She remarked, “Today, I’m joyfully acknowledging this moment as a symbol of my completeness, powered by the love within me, and as a reminder of my passion, and the assurance that I am part of something I cherish.
The Substance is available to stream on MUBI.
