An actress who was popular in the 80s and 90s was seen at a No Kings protest in Palm Desert, California last Saturday. These protests are happening in various cities nationwide.
Years ago, she had a successful start to her acting career in Hollywood, appearing in films with stars like Brad Pitt and Christian Slater.
She also guest-starred on many popular and long-remembered TV shows of the time, including 21 Jump Street and Melrose Place.
By the late 1990s, her acting career had slowed down considerably. She made one last movie that went straight to video, and then retired from acting in 2002.
Recently, the 58-year-old was seen at a protest against Donald Trump. She was holding a sign saying ‘Operation Epic Failure,’ a sarcastic reference to the official U.S. name for the Iran War, which was ‘Operation Epic Fury’.
She’s Cheryl Pollak, who starred alongside Brad Pitt in his first major movie role. They appeared together in the 1988 film, The Dark Side of the Sun, a production made in the US and Yugoslavia.
As a lifestyle expert, I was fascinated by Brad Pitt’s role in the film. He played a character with an incredibly rare skin condition – so sensitive to light that he literally couldn’t go outside without being completely covered up. It was a powerful portrayal of someone navigating a world that most of us take for granted, and really highlighted the challenges of living with such a severe condition.
Okay, so I’ve seen this interesting dynamic play out in a recent film! It involves an actress whose character is totally captivated by a man when he’s decked out in cool leather biker attire – think mysterious and edgy. But here’s the twist: the moment she sees what’s underneath the gear, the attraction completely vanishes. It’s a fascinating commentary on how appearances can be deceiving and how initial impressions, even based on a ‘look,’ can be surprisingly powerful.
She and Brad Pitt first appeared together in 1987 on an episode of the popular TV show 21 Jump Street, where they both played guest roles.
I noticed while covering the Palm Desert protest that Pollak really nailed the effortless chic look. She was wearing a loose, button-down shirt paired with cute cutoff shorts – a comfortable yet stylish choice for a day outdoors.
She kept her makeup simple and shielded her young-looking skin from the sun with sunglasses and a baseball cap.
Although she didn’t join the march with her sign, Pollak was seen relaxing with a drink at an outdoor table at a nearby Mexican restaurant.
Born in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1967, she started her acting career in Hollywood at age 19, first appearing in the 1987 horror comedy My Best Friend Is a Vampire.
She appeared in a photo with Robert Sean Leonard, who later gained fame as one of the students in the film Dead Poets Society, alongside Robin Williams.
She also worked on the 1990 teen movie Pump Up the Volume, starring Christian Slater as a high schooler who runs a pirate radio station.
Pollak appeared in various TV shows, including popular series like Alien Nation, Quantum Leap, Hotel Malibu, and JAG.
She married Richard Murphy in 1999. He had directed her in the film Betty the year before, a comedy where she played an actress who escapes to Palm Springs and gets into a lot of trouble.
The film featured Holland Taylor, known recently for her relationship with Sarah Paulson, along with Ron Perlman and the celebrated German actor Udo Kier.
Her last acting role was in the 2002 thriller Time of Fear, where she played an FBI agent solving a murder in a small town.
After that, she became a director, but her most recent project was a 2012 animated short film titled Jasper: A Fabulous Fourth.
