Robbie Williams reveals his bizarre social media algorithm as he prepares for massive NYE performance in Sydney

The niche nature of it all can sometimes feel suffocating, and success seems to rely more on luck than talent these days. It’s a jungle out there, and we’re all just trying to find our way through the echo chambers!
Legendary singer Robbie Williams subtly criticized the period dominated by music and content created by algorithms in a recent statement.
50-year-old Robbie is presently in Australia for the promotion of his newest movie titled “Better Man.” He has a grand performance scheduled for New Year’s Eve at the iconic Sydney Opera House.
In conversation with the Daily Telegraph, the artist behind the hit Rock DJ track expressed concern about the growing use of metrics to determine success. He suggested that algorithms are causing music to become excessively specialized or narrow.
In a conversation with the media, Robbie expressed that it’s almost as if being absent from these incredibly specialized market segments and isolated groups we’ve created for ourselves means becoming entirely invisible.
He added that the current landscape was an ‘interesting’ one for performers to navigate as a lot of success comes down to ‘luck.’
As a seasoned entertainer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that we are living in an unprecedented time. The landscape of our industry is constantly shifting, and it seems like everyone is scrambling to adapt. Frankly, I’m not sure what the future holds, but I do know that success will go to those who are willing to take risks and innovate. It’s a rollercoaster ride, and the outcome often feels like the luck of the algorithm. But I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything – it keeps me on my toes and pushes me to grow as an artist.
Robbie then revealed his own very niche, and surprising target algorithm.
‘My algorithm thinks I’m a menopausal gay Republican,’ he joked.
As I scrolled through my social media, I began to notice a pattern in the ads and music that popped up – it seemed like I was part of a distinct group within society.
‘I’m getting a load of menopausal remedies and exercises,’ he admitted.
He also mentioned that there was a blend of upbeat disco tunes along with content from Jimmy Dore, a well-known US comedian and conservative commentator, whose YouTube program The Jimmy Dore Show is quite popular.
As I ready myself for an extraordinary display at the Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve, I find myself reflecting on Robbie’s candid confession.
I had been discreetly involved in discussions spanning several weeks prior, and eventually, I was formally enlisted as the representative for Australia’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Robbie characterized the event as an ideal conclusion to the year following the filming of his latest biopic, “Better Man,” in Melbourne under the guidance of Australian director Michael Gracey.
According to the ABC’s announcement, Robbie expressed his deep affection for Australia and called the Sydney fireworks “simply enchanting.
2024’s New Year celebration in the location where my biopic, “Better Man,” was filmed would mark a fitting closure for 2024 and an auspicious beginning for 2025.
I can’t wait to perform and celebrate with my incredible Australian fans.’
On December 31st, his performance will air live on both ABC and ABC iview starting from 8:30 PM, marking the beginning of the New Year’s festivities.
On New Year’s Eve 2025, Charlie Pickering, Zan Rowe, and Concetta Caristo will be hosting the show prior to the spectacular Sydney Harbour Bridge fireworks ushering in the new year.
Previously from Take That, the artist has reignited his affection for Australia following the completion of his upcoming biopic titled “Better Man” in Melbourne.
The musical movie about Robbie’s life is receiving outstanding praise after its debut on Christmas Day in the United States, as well as its Boxing Day premieres in Australia and the UK.
This film, based on real life events, showcases the extraordinary journey of the singer, from his swift ascension to stardom as part of Take That, through to his tumultuous downfall. During this time, he grappled with his inner struggles and the obstacles that come with fame.
Contrary to expectations, this movie deviates from the norm. Instead of being a human character, the 50-year-old pop star is depicted as a chimpanzee. The movements are captured by Jonno Davies, while Robbie provides the majority of the vocal performance.
As a devoted follower, I initially perceived the decision as a significant risk, even bordering on foolishness. However, upon reflection, I’ve come to realize that it was nothing short of a stroke of genius – one of the most inspiring acts of casting this year.
In his four star review for Roger Egbert.com, Clint Worthington said the chimp gimmick was a ‘smart move’ that allowed Robbie to ‘vulnerably share his lows while underplaying the pomp and circumstance of his highs.’
He added: ‘You won’t see another music biopic quite like “Better Man,” regardless of your level of familiarity with its subject. There’s a surfeit of charm here that helps sell the nonsensical gimmick’.
