Lorraine Kelly is reportedly upset and disheartened after her ITV show was significantly cut back. Episodes are now only 30 minutes long, and several of her longtime colleagues have lost their jobs.
The experienced broadcaster, age 52, has watched her breakfast show be significantly impacted by budget cuts. It will now only air for 30 weeks each year, down from 52, resulting in the longest break she’s had from television in her 40-year career.
Lorraine is enjoying time with her one-year-old granddaughter, Billie, and her family – daughter Rosie and husband Steve Smith – but she’s accustomed to a fast-paced life working on camera.
I can’t believe Lorraine has all this extra time now that the show’s off for a few weeks! It’s so weird to think about – she’s always working, she’s such a machine, so this must be a huge change for her. I bet it’s taking some getting used to!
It’s been so tough watching Lorraine since she left her team. They weren’t just colleagues; they were her daily support system, her second family, really. Losing them was incredibly sudden and harsh, and she’s really feeling the loss. It’s heartbreaking to see her navigate life without that constant connection and support they provided.
Lorraine has openly missed her former colleagues and recently praised her previous editor, Victoria Kennedy, after the show was nominated for a BAFTA award, saying the news made her very happy.
She shared exciting news with a video and a message thanking BAFTA for the nomination. She also expressed gratitude to her former team, her old editor and friend, and a colleague, saying she misses them all very much.
According to a source, Lorraine has been trying to stay positive by staying busy, but she’s still driven and wants to continue finding professional fulfillment.
The article notes that Lorraine has removed any specific reference to her television show from her Instagram bio. It now simply says: ‘Granny to Billie. Mum to Rosie. On TV in the morning. Dundee United supporter’.
Daily Mail have contacted Lorraine’s representatives for comment.
Last May, reports surfaced that Lorraine’s show was facing cuts, leading to the cancellation of roles for its Friday fill-in hosts, Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard.
ITV’s cost-cutting measures have impacted Loose Women, leading to the removal of its live studio audience. The show was forced to make this change after moving from its previous studio to a much smaller location in London’s Covent Garden.
Due to recent budget cuts, Susanna Reid no longer has a personal hairdresser and is receiving less attention from the hair and makeup team. This is because Good Morning Britain staff are now sharing resources with those working on ITV News.
All daytime TV programs used to be filmed at the large Television Centre in White City. Now, with less space available, there are reports of problems behind the scenes.
According to a source, things are very disorganized behind the scenes at the TV studios. The sets for Loose Women, This Morning, and Lorraine are all located in the same basement area, causing a lot of crowding.
There’s limited space in the dressing rooms backstage, which becomes a real problem when four women are preparing to film at once.
‘It’s not an ideal situation at all. There have been some meltdowns.’
