The Inbetweeners star James Buckley reveals the main reason he wants a reboot of hit comedy that made him famous and why it would be ‘greenlit’ straight away
As a devoted fan who has followed The Inbetweeners since its inception, I must say that James Buckley’s desire to reboot the show for financial reasons resonates with me on a deeper level. After all, we all have bills to pay and families to provide for, even if our claim to fame is playing a sex-crazed sixth former named Jay Cartwright. The idea of a reboot being the most profitable work at this time is not lost on anyone, especially those who are juggling their personal and professional lives.
James Buckley wants to do a reboot of The Inbetweeners for the money.
The actor, 37, shot to fame as the sex-mad sixth former Jay Cartwright in the hit E4 sitcom.
He starred alongside Simon Bird as Will McKenzie, Joe Thomas as Simon Cooper and Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland.
Currently, James is wed to model Claire Meek, and they share two children, Harrison (aged 12) and Jude (aged 10).
From 2007 to 2010, the series was on air, followed by two movies in 2011 and 2014. James believes that a new season would immediately get the go-ahead if all of his fellow actors were on board with it.
James additionally acknowledged that should a return opportunity arise, it would likely be the most financially rewarding task he could request during this period.
James Buckley expresses his interest in reviving The Inbetweeners, primarily due to its potential financial gains. He shared with Headliners: “There’s no doubt that such a project would offer the highest profitability at this moment.
“I am a parent, part of a family unit, and I have financial responsibilities in the form of bills. At times, these domestic duties must be factored into my decisions, considering their practical implications – even if they may seem mundane or ordinary.
‘All that stuff I do think about and what’s great is I know, if four of us boys get together — and (writers) Iain Morris and Damon Beesley — and we all have a little chat and we said ‘Shall we go again?’ I know it would be greenlit straight away.’
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my unwavering faith in the creators’ ability to handle the progression of our beloved quartet. Regardless of the fact that they may have surpassed the sixth form stage by now, I am confident that their stories will continue to unfold gracefully and engagingly.
He noted that ‘men never grow up’ and he still finds the sitcom funny to this day.’
James has shared that the success of the program would not have been possible without him and his fellow actors being good friends.
He shared with OK! that due to our extensive efforts in creating the show, we often stayed at the same hotel. This allowed us to have dinner together quite frequently and run into each other in the mornings.
For a prolonged period, it was essential that we had mutual compatibility and enjoyed working together, as the creation of The Inbetweeners would likely not have been feasible otherwise.
‘But we do really get on. I miss them.’
After the conclusion of the sitcom, James played a lead part in ‘White Gold’ from 2017 to 2019, raking in an estimated £1 million through his work on the celebrity greetings video platform, Cameo.
He, along with his spouse, produce their YouTube series titled “At Home with the Buckleys” and a fresh podcast known as “The Buckleys.
He said: ‘Even our arguments are funny because they’re so stupid.
Currently, when I do actions that I recognize might irritate Claire, I tend to store them up and share them during our podcast instead. I’m interested in getting her honest, spontaneous response.
