Hairy Bikers’ Si King addresses “legacy” of late Dave Myers
As a long-time admirer of The Hairy Bikers, I find Si King’s heartfelt tribute to his late co-star, Dave Myers, truly moving and inspiring. The bond between these two friends, who met over shared passions and grew into a successful duo, is a testament to the power of friendship and camaraderie.
Hairy Bikers star Si King has addressed the “legacy” of his late co-star Dave Myers.
In February of this year, Myers, who was 66 years old, sadly passed away. He had shared news of his cancer diagnosis in 2022.
Tonight, December 23rd, a remarkable documentary was broadcasted on BBC Two, commemorating the life of Myers and his unique bond with King.
The show “The Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone” included commentary from both King and Lili Myers, who is Myers’ wife. They met in 2006 during the filming of the first series of the Hairy Bikers in Romania.
In conversation about his departed friend, King explained that it was his responsibility to ensure Myers’ legacy endured and his desires were fulfilled.
He believes that, given the Bikers’ ethos, Dave would prefer me to keep enjoying myself while also teaching, informing, enlightening, and occasionally pushing boundaries. In truth, I am certain that he wishes this for me,” he asserted.
I deeply yearn for him. It’s my responsibility to preserve his memory and nurture the inheritance he created, which is also the legacy we both constructed as the Hairy Bikers. In essence, it’s my duty to maintain our shared legacy.
After concluding our initial series, we were uncertain about the path ahead, yet we were certain that whatever lay in store, we would face it side by side.
This unique installment showcased old recordings, fresh interviews, and hidden videos featuring the pair, while providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into Myers’ memorable tribute event held in June.
Approximately 45,000 cyclists, under the leadership of ‘King’, embarked on the Dave Day ride, traveling from London to Barrow-in-Furness as a tribute to the deceased celebrity who once called that town home.
The ride was King’s last as a Hairy Biker as he officially closed the chapter on the double act’s 25-year career.
King reminisced, “That was a deeply humbling occasion for me. It was such a breathtakingly beautiful instance, a testament to the greatness of a remarkable individual.
In the year 1992, Myers and King crossed paths at a local tavern in Newcastle, both being involved in the backstage operations of television. King functioned as an assistant director, while Myers handled makeup duties.
Following their mutual appreciation for culture, cuisine, tunes, and motorbikes, this duo quickly struck up a friendship and resolved to produce a television pilot based on their initial joint journey.
Over the course of their career, they presented a total of thirty TV shows across BBC One, BBC Two, Channel 5, and Good Food, and penned twenty-seven cookbooks.
