Aaron Taylor-Johnson explains what makes Nosferatu a Christmas movie
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror movies and a soft spot for the macabre, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the fact that Nosferatu is indeed a perfect choice for Christmas viewing. Now, you might think it’s because of the snowy landscapes or the mysterious atmosphere that echoes the winter chill. But no, my dear reader! It’s not just about the surface-level aesthetics.
Although “Nosferatu” may not appear to be a film suitable for watching during Christmastime, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson offers a different perspective.
The excellent horror remake skulks into cinemas on Christmas Day in the US and on New Year’s Day in the UK. If you’re not a Robbie Williams or Sonic the Hedgehog fan, then Nosferatu might take your fancy.
Taylor-Johnson clearly articulates the excellent reasoning behind this decision as Nosferatu, being a film, carries an atmosphere perfectly suited for the holiday season of Christmas.
He expressed that this movie is certainly one worth watching during the Christmas season. It isn’t just because of its holiday-themed nature, but rather because Christmas and holidays are a time when one would especially enjoy outstanding films, as he conveyed to Digital Spy.
In my opinion, it’s a piece that’s not just visually stunning but offers an immersive experience. It would be a fantastic choice for viewing.
Despite not being a typical Christmas movie, Nosferatu still offers a wintry ambiance with falling snow, and as for viewers, they will find an intriguing ‘gift’ to discover.
The metamorphosis of Bill Skarsgård into Count Orlok is remaining a secret until the movie’s premiere, and we can attribute this mystery to the previous success of “Longlegs,” where Nicholas Cage’s transformation was similarly kept under wraps before its release.
According to director Robert Eggers, he intentionally chose to keep Bill’s appearance a secret until after the film’s release, and he believes the studio supported this decision.
Due to the triumph of the Longlegs campaign, there was no resistance at all. People were in agreement, saying, “Absolutely, this is the right approach.” It was quite delightful.
As a gamer, I’d say if someone told me they didn’t recognize Alexander Skarsgård as Count Orlok in the game we’re playing, I’d be genuinely amazed! The transformation he pulled off is so mind-blowing that it’s like he’s playing an entirely different character.
In this movie, you won’t find a single trace of Bill. It’s smart to keep him out of sight since the audience won’t recognize him until they check the credits, and that’s quite impressive.
“He’s one of those brilliant actors who definitely immerses himself into a character that is very spooky. I mean, he’s terrifying.”
At least you don’t have too much longer to find out if you agree.
Nosferatu is released in US cinemas on Christmas Day and in UK cinemas on New Year’s Day.
