UFC Mobile 2 is shutting down on March 13th 2025 as EA terminates yet another mobile title

Story Highlights

  • Released as the failed successor and EA Sports UFC, EA finally puts UFC Mobile 2 out of its misery.
  • Players can continue playing the game until the D-Day ie March 13th, 2025.
  • With no new UFC Mobile announced from EA, have we seen the end of UFC Mobile games then?

As a long-time fan of UFC games, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as I hear about the shutdown of UFC Mobile 2. On one hand, it was never really the game we all hoped for, with its arcadey combat and simplified controls falling short of the authentic MMA experience. But on the other hand, it was still an entertaining diversion that offered better graphics, presentation, and events compared to its predecessor.

As a passionate gamer, it’s with a heavy heart that I share the news: EA Sports, my go-to source for sports simulations, is pulling the plug on UFC Mobile 2. Launched in the gaming year of 2022, after extensive beta testing back in 2020, the game will officially shut down on March 13th, 2025. The word has been spread across their social media platforms and forums, making it official – UFC Mobile 2’s days are numbered.

Initially launched as an update to EA’s initial UFC game from 2015, UFC Mobile was met with a mix of positive and negative feedback even during its early access phase. Unlike EA Sports UFC, which concentrated on simulating fights within the Octagon for players, UFC Mobile 2 offered a more arcade-style combat experience where controls were limited to taps and swipes, falling short in delivering an enjoyable MMA gaming experience.

Players have can continue to battle in the Octagon till March 13, 2025

As per the official statement from EA, UFC Mobile 2 is no longer accessible for download on Google Play and App Stores. No new currency can be purchased using In-App Purchases (IAPs). Players who have the game installed are advised to use their in-game currencies until March 13th, 2025 when the game will be shut down, as no refunds for previous transactions will be given.

Although it didn’t capture the hearts of dedicated MMA enthusiasts, this game was embraced by casual fans. With improved graphics, a more polished presentation, and engaging events, UFC Mobile 2 managed to attract a significant number of followers during its release, accumulating over 10 million downloads. Additionally, thanks to Electronic Arts’ exclusive licensing agreements, UFC Mobile 2 stood out as the only licensed MMA game available on mobile platforms, featuring real fighters and their signature moves.

Players who had dedicated their time to UFC Mobile 2 were taken aback by the surprising news. Many have voiced their displeasure on social media platforms, pointing out Electronic Arts’ (EA) decision to cease EA Sports UFC (2015) in 2022 and now also UFC Mobile 2. Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the game due to its current scarcity of content, lack of new events, and questionable In-App Purchases.

EA has been minimizing its catalog of mobile games over the year

It’s not unusual for Electronic Arts (EA) to discontinue popular mobile games, as they halted both Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile last year. This year, EA announced the closure of two sports games, MLB Tap Sports Baseball and F1 Mobile Racing, along with seven other mobile titles scheduled to end in January next year. Interestingly, only EA’s trio of FC Mobile, Madden Mobile, and NBA Live Mobile have managed to remain viable over time.

Moreover, while not guaranteeing a fresh UFC mobile game down the line, the announcement acknowledges the community’s unwavering backing and directs users towards EA Sports UFC 5, their highly successful console counterpart. As of now, no mobile game holds the official UFC license, leaving us in suspense about whether EA will introduce a new UFC Mobile title in the future.
