Richard Armitage teases character in new Harlan Coben thriller
As a long-time fan of gripping mysteries and captivating storylines, I eagerly await the arrival of Richard Armitage’s latest role in Netflix’s Harlan Coben thriller “Missing You”. Having followed Armitage’s career since his days as John Thornton in North & South, I have come to appreciate his versatility and skill in portraying complex characters.
Richard Armitage has teased his role in Netflix’s upcoming Harlan Coben thriller Missing You.
Starting on New Year’s Day, the upcoming series focuses on Kat Donovan, a detective specializing in missing persons, played by Rosalind Eleazar. Her life is unexpectedly disrupted when her ex-fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters), who vanished mysteriously 11 years ago, reappears on a dating app.
In the series, Armitage assumes the position of Detective Chief Inspector Ellis Stagger, and he hints that viewers should approach his character with a degree of caution or skepticism.
He advised RadioTimes that one should be wary of Stagger. The allure of handling such intricate material lies in the fact that each character harbors a hidden storyline or secret aspect that they must hold onto.
I believe that for Stagger, it’s been about eleven years now. He and Clint (played by Lenny Henry) were contemporaries who rose through the ranks together in the force.
In the initial episode, as you become aware of the fate that befalls him and witness its impact on his daughter who’s teaming up with Stagger, it’s clear that there’s a hidden storyline at play. I can’t reveal the details, but it feels like the gradual accumulation of tension in a mystery plot, similar to a pressure cooker.
When inquired about what drew him to the position, Armitage replied: “It’s quite challenging to respond without revealing too much.
Playing a character as an authority figure like a police officer is something new for me, and I found it intriguing. Additionally, learning about the story’s twists and turns, along with the secrets this man must hide, made me think that the tension he carries would make for an engaging and thrilling performance.
Missing You arrives on Netflix on January 1, 2025.
