Elder Scrolls Online is moving away from large yearly expansions, called Chapters, and will instead release content in seasons, similar to games like Destiny 2 and Diablo 4. Each season in ESO will last about three months and bring new areas to explore, quests to complete, special events, and various improvements for players.
The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is launching Seasons with ‘Dawn and Dusk,’ known as Season Zero. Season 1 will arrive this summer, and Season 2 is planned for winter. ZeniMax Online Studios has shared a detailed roadmap for ESO Seasons through 2026, outlining new content and changes to how the game is played.

What to expect from ESO Season Zero?
Season Zero, titled Dawn and Dusk, introduces a brand-new group event called The Night Market. This special event will be available for a limited time, starting on April 29, 2026, and ending on June 17, 2026.
The Night Market lets you team up with one of three groups – The Glittering Goad, The Ruckus, or The Thousand Eyes – to tackle cooperative quests. You’ll meet new characters, solve puzzles in the environment, and face challenging bosses. This area is designed to be harder than regular open-world content, similar in difficulty to Trials and Arenas.
With the launch of Season Zero, the Dragonknight class is receiving a significant visual update. This includes improvements to its animations, visual effects, and sound, as well as changes to both the Two-Handed and Werewolf skill lines. You can look forward to enhanced abilities and a more polished overall experience.
The new Seasons update for ESO includes more free content than ever before, and players will have another way to get rewards through the Gold Coast Bazaar. This is a permanent in-game store where you can buy seasonal and regularly available cosmetics and useful items using Trade Bars, a currency you earn just by playing the game.
You can earn Trade Bars by progressing through Tamriel Tomes, the new battle pass in The Elder Scrolls Online. There are three tiers available: a free track, a premium track costing $14.99, and a premium bonus track for $29.99.
Season Zero also includes several improvements to make the game more enjoyable, like the ability to freely reset your character’s skills, increased limits on how much you can decorate your housing, adjustments to Challenge difficulty, improvements to player-versus-player combat, and new systems for mastering your chosen class. Plus, you’ll find new mounts available at the stable masters.
What to expect from ESO Season One?
The biggest updates coming in ESO Season One are new questlines for both the Thieves Guild and Sheograth. The Thieves Guild questline will send you back to the Glenumbra zone (which has been visually updated) in the Daggerfall Covenant. It continues the original Thieves Guild story, introducing new characters and gameplay features – like hiding in flowerpots! – but you don’t need to complete the old quests before starting the new ones.
Get ready for Sheograth, the Daedric Prince of Madness, to return with a new, six-part quest! Expect the unexpected – things will quickly become bizarre and unpredictable. Think dogs playing poker, flying cheese, and someone attempting to steal the power of a Daedric Prince – it’s classic Sheograth chaos.
Season One introduces several exciting additions, including a new system, an in-game event, and the Crimson Veldt Trial – a challenging encounter for 12 players. This is the first trial of its kind in the base game since 2014. Players can also explore Sage’s Vault, a new activity focused on puzzle-solving and navigating traps, offering a break from combat between realms.
One of the most exciting new features is the High Seas of Tamriel event, which introduces naval combat – yes, you’ll be able to fight at sea in ESO before the next Elder Scrolls game! – along with underwater exploration and all sorts of ocean adventures.
Just like the Dragonknight class received a major update in Season Zero, the Warden class will be getting a visual refresh and balance adjustments in Season One. We’ll share more specifics as we get closer to the Season One launch on July 9, 2026.
What to expect from ESO Season Two?
The next season of ESO will finally include solo dungeons, a feature many players have asked for! Two existing dungeons, Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifice, are being redesigned so you can play through them on your own. Plus, if you’re up for a challenge, there will be a harder difficulty setting available.
Season 2 will introduce major, game-changing events to the world of Skyrim, like dynamic weather storms. While details are still limited, these events are expected to pave the way for a new zone update in 2027, and hints suggest that update will focus on the Winterhold region.
The popular Night Market is coming back in Season 2, and while we’re not sure exactly what to expect, it might have some new additions. The Sorcerer class will also be getting some significant improvements, including visual updates and balance changes. We’ll share more details about these changes soon.
That’s everything coming to Elder Scrolls Online in 2026.
