Kate Winslet believes a sequel to The Holiday could work
As a long-time fan of heartwarming rom-coms, I can’t help but feel like Jude Law and Kate Winslet have been playing a secretive game with me for years! The possibility of a sequel to “The Holiday” has been tantalizingly dangled in front of us fans since its release in 2006.
Kate Winslet has opened up about the possibility of a sequel to her festive movie The Holiday.
During the holiday season in 2006, the romantic comedy noteworthily focused on a journalist named Iris (played by Winslet), who exchanged her tranquil English countryside dwelling for the Los Angeles residence of movie trailer editor Amanda (portrayed by Cameron Diaz).
Enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to the beloved holiday film, and now, actress Kate Winslet has fueled the rumors.
In an interview with Deadline, the actor shared that the idea of a sequel had never been discussed among the cast, and she found this surprising.
“Honestly, it’s never come up. I promise you,” she said.
To my surprise, it seems no one ever discussed the possibility of a sequel for this movie since its storyline appears suitable for one. However, as far as I know, there have been no discussions about making one.
The news comes after Jude Law recently recreated the film’s iconic Mr Napkin Head scene during a reunion with director Nancy Meyers.
On Meyers’ Instagram, a video from earlier this month showed Law (who portrayed Iris’s brother Graham in the movie) symbolically suggesting a potential sequel by balancing a napkin and glasses atop his head.
Enthusiasts swiftly flooded the comments with their enthusiasm for the gesture, whereas some called on Meyers to reconsider producing a sequel film.
Recently, during an interview with Comic Book, Law expressed interest in a new chapter of The Holiday, sharing his curiosity about where the characters stand today.
As we noticed that the audience continued to cherish this movie during their holiday seasons, we couldn’t help but share our joy and excitement about it, he explained.
What an amazing surprise! I never thought I’d witness something like this, but it’s just fantastic when it does. It seems to be quite rare, happening only in a select few movies. So, feeling incredibly fortunate, we were touched by its beauty.
He continued: “So, of course, that conversation comes up, ‘Is there an idea?’ But that all lands in Nancy Meyers’s lap. I’m sure if it was – you know, she’s pretty meticulous.
She’d agree to it only if it was a very strong concept, and in that case, it might involve all four of us returning. I’m quite intrigued to know what they’re up to now.
The Holiday is streaming now on Netflix.
