As a seasoned gamer with years of gaming experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing the potential for a sequel to Hi-Fi Rush. The original game was a breath of fresh air in the action-adventure genre, and its unique blend of rhythm and combat mechanics truly set it apart.
Following Tango Gameworks‘ “Hi-Fi Rush” being given a second chance by South Korean publisher Krafton after the studio was unexpectedly shut down in May, speculation now centers around the possibility of a sequel, shouldered under the Krafton brand.
As reported by IGN, it appears that Tango Gameworks has retained a significant portion of its core team members, with studio head Colin Mack, Hi-Fi Rush game director John Johanas, and development director Kazuaki Egashira among them. If given the opportunity, Johanas expresses his eagerness to preserve the intellectual property (IP) for Hi-Fi Rush within Tango Gameworks.
Johanas remarked, “Hi-Fi Rush gained popularity as a fresh IP, but if it remains unchanged over time, it could eventually grow obsolete.” He believes Tango Gameworks thrives on tackling new endeavors. His hope is to continue working in a way that prioritizes developers while maintaining our enthusiasm.
Johnathan emphasized that several individuals from the Tango squad hold a deep affection for the game Hi-Fi Rush, its characters, and environment. Consequently, the studio intends to preserve this intellectual property, as he put it.
Instead of sticking to what’s familiar, he emphasized the value of taking on new challenges. He had worked on “The Evil Within,” directed its DLC, and then took up directing “The Evil Within 2.” At that juncture, he felt that crafting another horror game might have been repetitive, given the limitations of reworking similar material. Trying something entirely new carries an element of risk, indeed, but so does continuing a series, he suggested.
At the start of the New Year, Tango Gameworks plans to expand its team by doubling its current staff size. However, they are still deciding on the best course of action for the future. While there’s been talk about a possible sequel to Hi-Fi Rush, it’s not yet set in stone. Johanas mentioned that many team members have a fondness for the original game, leaving them with several potential paths forward. They are currently exploring various opportunities.
Personally, we’d absolutely lap up a Hi-Fi Rush sequel.
