Tom Cruise surprises Timothee Chalamet at London screening of Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown
As a seasoned film critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the performance given by Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan is nothing short of breathtaking. The young man has truly outdone himself with this role, and it’s clear that he has poured his heart and soul into portraying the legendary musician.
On Tuesday in London, Tom Cruise unexpectedly dropped by the showing of Timothee Chalamet’s forthcoming Bob Dylan biopic, “A Complete Unknown.
62-year-old Tom Cruise, known for his role in Mission: Impossible, attended the UK premiere of Searchlight Pictures’ latest film focusing on the iconic musician at the Ham Yard Hotel, where he was accompanied by Kylie Jenner’s 28-year-old partner.
Previously, the person known as Cruise sent Chalamet a motivational message. At a recent gathering, he appeared alongside the rising star, snapping photos together.
In a show of pride, the legendary actor from Hollywood placed a hand on Chalamet’s shoulder, patted him afterward, and gestured towards him with a nod, much like a mentor would.
The action superstar showed off his effortless style in a navy button-up, blue jeans and black boots.
Simultaneously, the actor playing Dune’s role, sporting the character of Dylan, donned a striped long-sleeved top, paired it with black trousers, and wore a mustache.
Additionally, they joined forces for collective photos with the entire cast, which included Monica Barbaro, Elle Fanning, as well as the director, James Mangold.
At the Fanning event, Sylvie Russo’s portrayer sported an elegant look with a black jacket, leggings, and tall boots that reached her knees.
Meanwhile Barbaro was business chic in a grey pantsuit and white top.
Cruise has been a champion of Chalamet’s rise to fame, and even once wrote him an ‘inspiring’ email that was ‘like a war cry’.
Previously, Chalamet disclosed the counsel he received from a legendary Hollywood figure when he appeared on the cover of the November issue of British GQ Magazine.
The actor mentioned that Tom Cruise, known for his role as Maverick in Top Gun, reached out with an encouraging and enlightening message containing a roster of specialists for stunt practice.
Chalamet mentioned that Cruise, known for performing his own stunts on screen, informed him that he should acquire those abilities if he wanted to advance more in his acting journey.
‘Following our meeting after I completed the first Dune movie, Tom Cruise emailed me an incredibly motivating message. This email contained something like a Rolodex full of experts he could consult for stunt training – it included a motorcycle instructor and a helicopter trainer.’
‘He basically said, in Old Hollywood, you would be getting dance training and fight training, and nobody is going to hold you to that standard today. So it’s up to you. The email was really like a war cry,’ Chalamet added.
Later, Chalamet openly expressed his appreciation for Cruise, mentioning that he had watched the highly-praised sequel Top Gun: Maverick a total of eight times.
Additionally, he mentioned that not only did he arrange for an entire cinema in Budapest, but he invited the entire cast and crew of Dune to attend the screening there.
Last summer, while working on Dune, Top Gun really inspired me deeply. A few members of the team were a bit dismissive about it, but to me, it was one of the most remarkable movies I’ve ever watched.
Chalamet’s latest performance as Dylan has been dubbed as ‘electrifying’ by critics.
As a devoted admirer, I find myself lauded for my captivating portrayal of the Oscar-nominated character, even though I hadn’t crossed paths with the legendary musician behind Like A Rolling Stone before taking on the role. Despite the film’s imperfections, it seems my performance has managed to salvage its appeal.
The film centers around significant stages of Dylan’s budding career, his shift from folk music to rock, as well as his memorable concert at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.
According to Brian Viner from The Daily Mail, director and co-writer Mangold has skillfully created a captivating movie that zeroes in on the critical years, between 1961 and 1961 when Bob Dylan was an unknown teenager from Minnesota, who made his way to New York City.
He later continues: ‘But A Complete Unknown is a triumph, all the same, entertainingly reminding us that, love him or hate him, Dylan remains one of the most influential musicians of the last 70 years. And that Chalamet, aged 28, is much more than a pretty face.’
In my opinion as a lifestyle expert, while it shares several powerful qualities with the film ‘Walk the Line’, it also has unique areas for improvement. However, I must commend Timothée Chalamet’s extraordinary performance, which is undeniably captivating in every aspect, and does not fall among its weaknesses.
Rooney pointed out that both the film and its lead actor don’t soften the harshness of a creative genius, whose inconsiderate behavior towards those near him is notably different from the compassion portrayed in his music.
A Complete Unknown is due in theaters Christmas day.
