As a seasoned theater-goer and ardent fan of Mathew Horne‘s work, I was saddened to hear about his accident during The Tempest performance. It’s disheartening when an artist, who brings so much joy to our lives, faces such a painful incident on stage. Yet, it only strengthens my admiration for their dedication and passion.

According to reports, actor Mathew Horne, best known for his role in Gavin & Stacey, apparently sustained a painful head wound during a stage performance at the West End on Tuesday.

During the play The Tempest at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, the actor, aged 46, was reportedly escorted backstage for a medical examination following an incident where he accidentally hit his head on stage.

During a scene, he apparently bumped his forehead on a rock by accident as he was playfully moving around on the stage floor, and this happened only 10 minutes into the performance.

As reported by The Sun, the performance had a brief interruption of 15 minutes as Mathew received medical clearance. Afterward, he resumed the show, noticeably sporting a mark on his head.

In the course of my recent theater visit, I found myself intrigued by an observation that caught my attention. From my vantage point in the audience, it was evident that Mathew sported a rather prominent, inflamed mark on his forehead. Even at a distance, its distressing appearance was palpable.

They paused the performance, just as a preventive step, to check him thoroughly since it appeared he was experiencing discomfort or pain.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, the cast reappeared on stage, with Matthew among them. However, he appeared to have a painful-looking forehead. Despite this obvious discomfort, he soldiered on and finished the performance.

TopMob has contacted representatives for Mathew Horne for comment.

Regardless of the reported injury he sustained the previous day, Matthew appeared cheerful as he met up with his fellow actors during the Gavin and Stacey: The Finale event held at the Ham Yard Hotel on Wednesday.

In a 90-minute special slated for Christmas Day, the final episode of the cherished comedy series, long requested by its dedicated viewers after the suspenseful 2019 special, is set to air.

Matthew, who takes the lead role as Gavin, was accompanied by his onscreen spouse Joanna Page, along with fellow actors Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman, Steffan Rhodri, and Robert Wilfort. Additionally, showmakers James Corden and Ruth Jones were present.

At a recent screening, Mathew and James, aged 46, who are often seen as Gavin’s closest friend Smithy on screen, had a heartwarming interaction that effectively debunked any ongoing rumors about their disagreements.

They demonstrated there was no lingering hostility between them, since they affectionately embraced each other, following Matthew’s refutation of allegations suggesting a severe argument or disagreement.

Initially, they were practically joined at the hip, often seen side by side, until James ventured into achieving stardom in the United States.

It was conjectured that the two might have had a disagreement following the end of Gavin & Stacey’s broadcast in 2009, as James subsequently took over his own popular late-night talk show on American television.

To set the record straight, I’ve been a die-hard fan, but let me clarify that Mathew has firmly debunked those rumors, voicing his exasperation over the need to continuously refute them. At the same time, he’s stood up for James, defending him against these unwarranted allegations.

Over the weekend, he told The Times, “The idea that we had a rift in 2009 was not accurate, yet there was little I could do to refute it at the time.

Since James departed for the United States, this became the perceived story. No matter how much I asserted that we didn’t have a falling-out, it wouldn’t have changed anyone’s mind about it.

He went on to say: ‘Things were incredibly busy, and I’d appreciate if they could calm down a bit. I simply want to appreciate and cherish the blessings I already possess.’

‘Which is a really interesting, fun career and a beautiful family. Honestly, I’m sick of talking about 15 years of this, it sapped my energy at the time and it’s not important.’

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but step in when James is under attack by those who criticize him for his achievements. The truth is, the harsh words he faces – and it’s more than just criticism – stem from jealousy. He is a remarkably talented actor, writer, and a shining example of a self-made success story from humble origins.

Indeed, I do care for him deeply. However, it seems that I’ve been held back from openly talking about him due to a storyline that has been thrust upon us.
