Death in Paradise’s Don Gilet admits his new detective is “not really liked”

As a seasoned gamer of crime dramas, having binge-watched numerous detective series from London’s gritty streets to the sunny islands, I must say that Don Gilet’s new character, DI Mervin Wilson, seems to be a breath of fresh air in the Death in Paradise universe. His brusque demeanor, impatience, and disdain for Saint Marie’s laid-back pace are reminiscent of a Londoner thrust into a tropical paradise, which I can totally relate to as someone who has been known to get restless when stuck in traffic jams on the North Circular.

Death in Paradise actor Don Gilet discusses the unique traits that set his latest character apart from those we’ve previously encountered.

In the upcoming Christmas episode of “EastEnders,” the previous actor will first appear as DI Mervin Wilson, and it turns out from tonight’s (December 18) “The One Show” interview with Gilet that Mervin isn’t having a fantastic time in Saint Marie.

The actor expressed that the individual in question isn’t well-received initially. He shows no enthusiasm about being present, dislikes the location, and is unsettled by its tempo. These factors seem to be hindering him and conflicting with his preferred approach.

He isn’t fond of people who lack intelligence, as he tends to lose patience quickly. He is an individual who thrives in fast-paced environments, much like the bustling city of London. If things aren’t moving at a brisk pace, he becomes restless.

And that’s when you make up your mind about him, based on whether or not he gets along well with his coworkers. Since he often annoys them.

To clarify, Melvin was initially on the island for a sort of vacation, but he’s expected to depart once summoned to work on a murder case. However, he ends up participating in resolving the Christmas-time enigma, albeit unwillingly.

In this scenario, Alex Jones and Clara Amfo played the video where Melvin’s manager tried to contact him while he was already on a flight heading towards Saint Marie, hoping to escape his obligations. However, his efforts were unsuccessful.

Lately, Gilet confessed that it felt equally thrilling and scary to be assuming control of the program.

As a gamer, I can’t help but compare this situation to a heart-pounding roller coaster ride at an amusement park. I’m strapping myself in, knowing full well that the thrill is going to make my heart race. But I’m ready to take the plunge anyway.

Both “Death in Paradise” and its sequel series, “Beyond Paradise,” can be found airing on BBC One and streaming on BBC iPlayer. Similarly, “The One Show” is broadcast on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
