Chance the Rapper’s divorce gets real as estranged wife Kirsten Corley files petition
As a cinephile who has witnessed the ebb and flow of countless relationships in the realm of music, I find myself reflecting on the transient nature of love and commitment as I read about the divorces of Chance the Rapper and Daddy Yankee.
The divorce process between Chance the Rapper and his estranged wife, Kirsten Corley, has formally started, following several months after they publicly announced their separation.
On Friday, petition papers for divorce were submitted by Corley to the Grammy-winning artist known for songs like “Sunday Candy” and “Cocoa Butter Kisses”, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, in Cook County, Illinois. The Times reported this, but neither Corley’s nor Chance the Rapper’s representatives have yet provided a comment on the matter as of Wednesday.
Chance and Corley, a renowned influencer and ex-model, have two little girls together. Despite knowing each other as kids, they reconnected in 2013 and started dating. They became parents for the first time in 2015, and tied the knot in the same year they had their second daughter.
Music
Daddy Yankee has officially ended his long-standing marriage with Mireddys González, lasting almost three decades, following unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation.
The rapper’s wedding played a significant role in his first studio album, titled “The Big Day.” This album was released in 2019, following several years of Chance gaining popularity with a collection of mixtapes such as the critically acclaimed “Acid Rap” and “Coloring Book.
For “The Big Day” event, Chance teamed up with various musicians such as John Legend, Death Cab for Cutie, Megan Thee Stallion, Shawn Mendes, and Randy Newman. Prior to the album’s release, Chance shared memories of his wife in an interview with Apple Music. He reminisced about first noticing her at a dance party they both attended as children, and delved into their years-long relationship.
Entertainment & Arts
They made their decision known via a shared post on their Instagram accounts, expressing that they plan to jointly raise their two little girls.
He expressed, “It seems I’ve always felt destined to marry my wife. At the time, I was concerned about making the most of the time I had and avoiding any regrettable decisions. In essence, I was given an opportunity to reconcile with her and save myself from making a disastrous mistake.
Back in April, they officially parted ways following five years of matrimony. Earlier rumors about marital strife had swirled around them when the rapper was spotted dancing with another woman at a 2023 birthday party in Jamaica. In their statement, they expressed their dedication to jointly raising their kids.
They once shared, “God has granted us two lovely daughters whom we’ll continue to nurture as a team.” Now, they humbly request understanding and confidentiality as they journey through this change together.
