Ex Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati – who played Sunita Alahan – is made an MBE by Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace
I must say, it’s truly inspiring to see Shobna’s journey, especially her embracing of her grey hair and age with such grace and confidence. Her unapologetic acceptance of herself is something we all could learn from.
Actress Shobni Gulati was honored with the title of Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace.
Previously known for her role as Sunita Alahan on Coronation Street, a 58-year-old actress was bestowed with an honor during a ceremony held in London on Wednesday.
On the significant day, Shobna, honored with an MBE for her contributions to the cultural sectors, exuded a captivating elegance.
She looked chic in a dark blue satin capped sleeve midi-dress, featuring a cowl-neck bodice and asymmetric pleated skirt.
Shobna paired the gown with black suede heeled boots and a red and navy fedora hat.
She adorned herself with large, eye-catching drop earrings that boasted a substantial sapphire stone encircled by sparkling diamonds.
Recently, Shobna opened up about feeling ‘disheartened’ following yet another unsuccessful audition, causing her to contemplate her professional path, as expressed in a heartfelt Instagram post.
She has appeared to have had some trouble getting cast for roles and acting jobs.
Sharing her thoughts with her audience, Shobna wrote: ‘Facing the sting of rejection for a task I hadn’t initially planned on undertaking.’
Sometimes, I find myself questioning why I chose this career path. At times, it feels puzzling, but truthfully, I can’t always pinpoint the reason. Just wanted to let you know, things can be tough out here.
Ever since I’ve let my locks grow out silver, having dyed them brown for so many years, I’ve found a new sense of comfort. And now, here I am, expressing it openly in this post.
The soap star penned: ‘Wiser? Definitely older! and very silver – growing greysfully.
Many suggested I return my hair to its dark brown shade, implying that I appeared older, and questioning why I was giving in to becoming an elderly woman, which they found unattractive.
‘But times a changing innit and I’m so happy with what’s transpired and I’m so comfortable now.
‘I’m not sure, but I think my head feels better without the bi-weekly root dye… and that means no harsh chemicals, no color-protecting shampoo, which makes it feel like it did when I was younger. I thought I’d let you know about this.’
Although some fans initially expressed negativity about her fresh hairstyle, many subsequently commented on her recent post praising her for looking ‘stunning’ and admiring their own courage to follow suit.
She gushed that she is ‘so happy’ with her new look after some fans told her to ‘dye it back’ to brunette.
Wow, that’s absolutely stunning! I’m eagerly anticipating the transformation of my own hair; I find it quite charming. You truly embody beauty; I wish I had the courage to make such a change myself someday. I adore your hair color! ❤️ It’s something I plan on doing in the future. Xx
You have an amazing appearance today! The gray hair style seems to complement you beautifully. I admire your ability to rock the natural look, and I believe it highlights your charm exceptionally well. You truly embody the grace that silver hair can bring out, so consider keeping your natural color!
In the year 2021, Shobna shared her thoughts on aging with Platinum magazine, stating: “I’m not interested in maintaining a specific appearance, or the way others might expect me to appear.
‘I think having my grey hair is deeply empowering because when people say to me, “Oh, you don’t look your age,” I can say, “Well, I am.”
She went on: ‘Ours is a youth-obsessed society, but the good news is that I’ve watched a lot of European thrillers and dramas during lockdown and it seems that being female of a certain age and experience is represented on screen.
It’s perfectly fine if you have any appearance; facial expressions vary and some people have gray hair, traits I find acceptable for myself.
From 2001 to 2006, as well as from 2009 to 2013, the actress portrayed Sunita Alahan on Coronation Street.
In 2019, she assumed the character of Ray in the Broadway version of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and later reprised her role for the film adaptation.
Shobna reprised her role in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie for the 2023-2024 UK and Ireland Tour.
