Wicked cast always knew the real title of Part 2

As a dedicated fan who has followed the Wicked saga since its inception, I must say, the recent revelation that the sequel is titled “Wicked: For Good” has left me utterly thrilled! It’s like being privy to a secret for years and finally having it confirmed. The cast knowing this title since day one of filming only adds to the mystique, making us feel as if we are part of an exclusive club.

The actors from Wicked have shared that they had been aware of the true title for Part 2, which was just made public.

This week, it was officially announced that the title for the second part of the The Wizard of Oz prequel musical, encompassing its second act on stage, will be named Wicked: A Journey Toward Goodness.

However, though the title was only recently made public, the actors had been aware of it since filming commenced as early as 2022.

Ariana Grande from the show “Glinda” revealed to Variety that the phrase “[For Good]” was already printed on the initial scripts they received. From the start, they had been brainstorming other ideas, but the original copies of the script contained this phrase since its inception.

I’m relieved that it’s now official, as we’ve grown quite fond of it. The title fits perfectly since this project has truly left a lasting impact on us.

Regarding the second movie, Marissa Bode, Ariana’s fellow actor, hinted that it would deviate from the stage production to offer more authentic disabled representation.

Additionally, Ariana Grande has disclosed that she and actress Cynthia Erivo, known for her role as Elphaba, worked hard to preserve a particular line in the movie version from the original script. This change was suggested by director Jon M Chu and the writers to align with the storyline of The Wizard of Oz.

On a recent call with Cynthia, I asked, “Cynthia, have you wrapped up the script?” She replied, “I nearly have, sweetheart.” I then pointed out, “It seems like a crucial line is missing: ‘The Wizard will see you now’.” Puzzled, she responded, “What are you referring to?” I explained, “Apparently, that line isn’t there in the script.” This was shared during an episode on the Sentimental Men podcast.
