Stephen Graham’s new London-set Steven Knight drama confirms release date
As a gamer with a penchant for gritty dramas set in the underbelly of society, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming release of Stephen Graham’s new series, “A Thousand Blows.” With its roots deeply embedded in the East End of London and its promise of raw action, this series seems tailor-made for me.
The long-awaited debut of Stephen Graham’s latest drama titled “A Thousand Blows” by creator Steven Knight, has officially set its release date and unveiled a fresh preview trailer.
Beginning February 21, 2025, a six-part series, taking place in London’s East End, is scheduled for release on streaming platform Disney+ in both the UK and Ireland. For viewers in the US, the show titled “A Thousand Blows” will make its debut on Hulu on the same date.
The trailer has been previously released, giving us a look at the impressive cast in action.
Previously, we’ve been privileged to catch a sneak peek of the characters in “A Thousand Blows,” among them Stephen Graham portraying Sugar Goodson, a hardened and lethal boxer.
In a different phrasing, Malachi Kirby, who plays Hezekiah Moscow in “Small Axe,” was also spotted alongside the character Mary Carr (known from “The Crown” as Erin Doherty). Mary Carr is depicted as the head of an infamous all-female London gang called The Forty Elephants.
In the ruthless environment of Victorian London’s East End during the 1880s, the story A Thousand Blows unfolds around Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe – two close friends from Jamaica who unwittingly become part of the brutal world of bare-knuckle boxing.
As a passionate admirer, I’d rephrase it this way: The summary reveals that the intimidating and self-proclaimed ruler of the East End boxing realm, Sugar Goodson, is bent on dismantling Hezekiah. This ambitious fighter’s aspirations to compete in the West End pose a threat to everything Goodson has painstakingly established.
Besides Nick Murphy, who collaborated with Graham and Knight on the BBC’s 2019 version of “A Christmas Carol”, Ashley Walters, Coky Giedroyc (known for “Save Me”), and Tinge Krishnan are also part of the directorial team.
A Thousand Blows will release on Disney Plus on February 21, 2025.
