Lara Worthington cops backlash over ‘taunting amazing creatures’: ‘It’s wrong on all levels’
As a lifestyle expert with a background in animal behavior and conservation, I must admit that Lara Worthington‘s latest stunt left me both intrigued and concerned. On one hand, I admire her courage and adventurous spirit, as well as her apparent bond with these magnificent creatures that she seems to share with the late Steve Irwin. However, as someone who has spent years studying and working with various species, I can’t help but feel a pang of unease when I see such close encounters between humans and potentially dangerous animals.
This past week, I found myself stirring up quite a buzz among fellow fans when I posted images showcasing what might appear to some as an ordinary action, taken by none other than the captivating Lara Worthington.
On Wednesday, the 37-year-old shared two images on Instagram that were captured at Crocosaurus Cove, an exotic reptile and aquatic habitat situated in Darwin.
The heart-stopping images showed Lara, encased in a perspex cage, dubbed the Cage Of Death, below the water’s surface.
In the pictures, it was evident that Lara wasn’t swimming by herself; instead, a large crocodile was seen approaching her cage, apparently assessing Lara as a potential snack.
As I stood there, my heart pounding with excitement, I couldn’t help but feel a kinship with the great Steve Irwin. Despite the raw power and ancient mystery that surrounded those prehistoric creatures swimming before me, I remained composed, gently swaying my arms like tendrils in the water. From behind the safety of the cage, I watched, channeling the spirit of the legendary wildlife warrior, captivated by the spectacle unfolding before my eyes.
The pulse-raising post was met with a flurry of comments from fans, with many praising Lara’s bravery cavorting with the apex predators.
One spectator expressed their skepticism saying, “I’d still be hesitant to believe it,” and another echoed the sentiment with, “That takes courage… I wouldn’t have the guts to do that myself!
While many fans seemed to appreciate it, others weren’t quite as enthusiastic. Some even went as far as criticizing the TV personality for being disrespectful, labeling their actions towards the crocodiles as ‘provocative’.
One spectator criticized, saying, “These incredible ancient beings are confined in small enclosures for entertainment by humans.” But that’s definitely not the energy you’re about!
Another fan agreed with the sentiment, arguing that the animals appeared ‘depressed’.
‘100% agree,’ they replied.
Last year when I witnessed those crocodiles, I felt such sorrow because they appeared so dejected. Their enclosures were distressingly small. It’s just not right from every angle.
Following an uncomfortable encounter with a journalist at this month’s GQ Men Of the Year Awards, Lara has posted about the incident.
Channel Seven’s reporter, Sally Bowery, introduced Lara to the Sydney event audience using her former surname, Bingle – and that didn’t sit well with them at all.
‘Her name is Lara Worthington,’ the 48-year-old Avatar star clapped back.
‘It’s only been ten years,’ a clearly irritated Sam quickly added.
Bowery quickly apologised for he faux pas.
‘That was my slip,’ she said.
Later on in the evening, the Avatar star was crowned GQ’s Man of the Year.
Following the red carpet Bingle bungle, Sally clapped back at the actor in a column for Seven.
Sally mentioned that Lara’s previous name, which she had been known by for a considerable period, was what I referred to. This wasn’t an error; it was a name she used extensively prior to her marriage. It was a household name even before she met her husband,” Sally explained.
Lara appeared completely unfazed by her mistake, found it amusing, and expressed puzzlement over why Sam expected her to be called her married name while explaining the situation to him.
In my perspective as a lifestyle guide, I’d rephrase Sally’s statement like this: “At a gathering honoring the contemporary male, why wasn’t my partner present? A woman’s marital status transcends merely adopting her husband’s last name.
Later on, she referred back to Sam’s acceptance speech from when he was named Man of The Year, where he emphasized the importance of leaving behind old-fashioned ideas.
He shared with the audience that it is possible for men to love others genuinely and show respect, free from old-fashioned expectations or typical, antiquated, and rather unfortunate notions about what it means to be a man.
‘I couldn’t agree more,’ she concluded.
In the year 2013, Sam and Lara started a romantic relationship. They exchanged vows in a private ceremony the following year in 2014. Since then, they’ve become parents to three boys – Racer, who is eight years old, River, who is four, and Rocket, who is nine.
