Gary Lineker reunites with his ex-wife Danielle Bux for a candlelit ‘Christmas tipple’ eight years after their split

As someone who has spent a considerable amount of time observing the lives of public figures, I must say that Gary Lineker’s story is one that truly stands out. His ability to maintain close friendships, even after a marital split, is quite remarkable and speaks volumes about his character.

Gary Lineker and his ex-wife Danielle Bux reunited for a festive night out on Tuesday.

64-year-old sports analyst had a romantic dinner lit by candles and shared drinks with Danielle, eight years since their separation.

Danielle, age 45, continues to maintain a strong friendship with her former spouse, following their 7-year marriage. She recently posted pictures on Instagram from an evening they spent together at Dorian Restaurant located in Notting Hill.

Displaying their table adorned with salad and wine, the Welsh actress labeled Gary and posted “Holiday beverage” along with a warm selfie of them both, anticipating their nighttime tube journey home.

Previously, I’ve shared that Danielle, who relocated to Los Angeles post-divorce, always comes to stay with me when her travels bring her back to London.

Danielle and Gary parted ways due to her wish to start a family, contrasting with his contentment with his four grown sons – George (32), Harry (30), Tobias (28) and Angus (26). It’s worth mentioning that Danielle has a 22-year-old daughter named Ella from a past relationship.

Previously, he told The Times: “Clearly, I would have liked to help, but she argued, ‘It wouldn’t be right for you.’ Later, I responded, ‘I’d hate to hold you back.’

Last year, while appearing on my good friend Gaby Logan’s podcast The Mid-Point, I delved deeper into the topic at hand. Specifically, I mentioned that it was all about my kids who inspired this shift in my lifestyle.

She previously had a daughter, while I had four sons. However, as time went on, she felt an increasing desire to have more children.

Ultimately, he proposed, “Perhaps it would be best if we remain friends instead?” He further explained that he wished for her to have the freedom to seek someone else who shared the desire for starting a family.

She objected to my performing an action that wasn’t particularly appealing to me on a deeper level, and I felt reluctant to dissuade her from pursuing something she genuinely desired, deeply. As a result, we arrived at a rational and pragmatic decision – a parting of ways.

In the year 2019, two years following the birth of their child Romy, who is now seven, Danielle tied the knot with Nate Greenwald, a renowned American attorney specializing in entertainment law.

2019 saw Gary disclose that he chats with Danielle on three daily occasions, affirming that they remain the closest of friends.

Expressing their relationship as somewhat unique, he shared with Mirror, “Danielle and I are more like best friends. We chat at least three times daily, and our texts fly back and forth constantly.

He added: ‘When she comes to London she stays with me, and when I go to Los Angeles I see her.’ 

In the year 1986, Gary got married to Michelle Cockayne, and throughout their union, they became parents to four boys.

After spending 20 years together, they decided to part ways in their marriage, and then, in the year 2009, Gary tied the knot with Danielle, who is 19 years younger than him.

Despite Danielle remarrying, Gary has remained single since their divorce.

In the year of 2021, I found myself expressing a nonchalant attitude towards intimacy, acknowledging that I had reached an age when my testosterone levels were on a natural decline.

According to an interview with The Times, Gary expressed that he enjoys solitude and doesn’t experience feelings of loneliness. He occasionally goes on a date or two, but nothing significant.

In terms of a lengthy partnership, I’ve spent most of my adult years married. I’ve had two excellent marriages and am friends with both.

1) I’m currently unattached, and I don’t plan on changing that situation anytime soon! I’ve been in relationships before, and when I tried to share my thoughts with my friends, they were less than supportive. In fact, they ended up criticizing me harshly.

Contrary to his earlier declarations of being single, Gary was spotted recently having an enjoyable evening at the renowned Dorian restaurant with Leila Bartell, a close associate of Johnny Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Previously, the ex-England soccer player was seldom spotted socializing with females; however, in May, he was noticed spending an evening with a woman believed to be around 40 years old named Leila, as well as their common friend Jemima Khan.

There was speculation back then that Ms. Khan and Lineker might be dating. Interestingly, a year prior to that, he had been present at her 50th birthday celebration held at Kiddington Hall, located in Oxfordshire.
