Jason Statham’s heist remake is on TV tonight

As a gamer with a penchant for action movies, I can wholeheartedly say that The Italian Job is a must-watch masterpiece from the golden age of cinematic heists. Jason Statham’s charismatic portrayal of Handsome Rob was arguably his breakout role after his stint with Guy Ritchie’s London gangster flicks.

Experience the return of Jason Statham on the big screen next year with the new action film “Mutiny”. However, if you’d like a throwback to one of his early acting roles, catch it tonight instead!

In 2003, “The Italian Job,” a film, was released as a reimagining of the iconic 1969 British heist movie with the same title. However, to clarify, it isn’t an exact remake; instead, it presents a unique narrative with new characters that draw inspiration from the original movie.

Jason Statham plays Handsome Rob, a smooth-talking, womanizing character who serves as the driver for the initial heist. This was likely his first significant Hollywood role following his breakthrough in “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch.” (Excluding Ghosts of Mars from this achievement.)

If you’re in the mood for it, “The Italian Job” will be broadcast tonight (December 18) at 10:45 PM on ITV1, whether it’s a repeat or your first time watching it!

The movie The Italian Job also features actors such as Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def, and the late Donald Sutherland.

In the year 2020, Theron reflected that working on the film was an enriching encounter, as it imparted valuable lessons regarding the action genre which she was involved with at the moment.

She acknowledged that despite the fact that the movie’s focus was primarily on cars, there remained a significant amount of misunderstanding about women in the genre. Reflecting back, she pointed out that the physical demands were substantial and unfortunately, there was an unjust process associated with it.

In a group full of men, I was the sole female, and I recall distinctly that during pre-production planning, they assigned me six additional weeks of driving training compared to all the males. This detail felt incredibly disrespectful.

However, it served as a significant motivation for me. I found myself thinking, “You all seem eager for a challenge? Very well, let’s see what we can do.” I determinedly aimed to surpass everyone on the road.

The Italian Job airs tonight (December 18) at 10.45pm on ITV1.
