Ariana Grande reveals wild truth behind Wicked sequel title change
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for entertainment trends, I must say that the upcoming Wicked sequel, now titled “Wicked: For Good,” has me utterly thrilled! With Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo returning to their iconic roles, this film promises an unforgettable journey that will undoubtedly leave audiences spellbound.
Ariana Grande has at last disclosed the reason for altering the title of the upcoming sequel to “Wicked”, set for release next year.
In a two-part film version based on the highly successful 2003 Broadway play, a 31-year-old actor shares the screen with Cynthia Erivo. This captivating production provides insights into the background of the Wicked Witch of the West, as depicted in L. Frank Baum’s cherished novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
In this production, Cynthia takes on the role of Elphaba, a green-hued girl gifted with magical abilities, eventually transforming into the infamous Wicked Witch. On the other hand, Ariana portrays Galinda, her college companion and dearest friend, who later develops into Glinda The Good Witch Of The North, becoming Elphaba’s rival in the story.
In the Thanksgiving week, Wicked: Part One made a splash at the box office and has since surpassed the $500 million milestone globally.
It’s been revealed this week that the sequel to “Wicked” will officially be called “Wicked: For Good”, a title inspired by the powerful finale song from the original stage production.
Now, Ariana has revealed the backstory for the title of her upcoming film, and she shared how she learned about the subtitle through Variety.
In her recent interview, Ariana mentioned that the phrase “For Good” was included in the initial scripts, which were the physical copies that we initially received.
Initially, we tossed around various concepts, yet the script had been written into it from the start. It’s gratifying that it’s now official, as we’ve grown quite fond of it over time.
Composed by Stephen Schwartz, “For Good” is a harmonious duet between Elphaba and Glinda, two individuals thrust onto opposite ends of a conflict, yet they share this final melody as a testament to their enduring friendship.
‘I can’t be sure if I’ve improved as a result, but knowing you has undeniably made me a better person.’
Originally, director Jon M. Chu intended to create a dual film adaption of the popular Broadway musical, which was inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel and presented familiar characters from The Wizard of Oz in fresh perspectives.
On Monday, it was revealed by the studio that the upcoming sequel, previously known as Wicked: Part 2 to the general public, has been renamed to Wicked: For Good, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On Instagram’s Wicked page, the studio unveiled the title via a short video, garnering over 760,000 likes within only three hours.
The upcoming sequel is scheduled to be released on November 21, 2025, and will potentially face competition from Paramount’s reboot of “The Running Man,” featuring Glen Powell on the same day.
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! Once again, the extraordinary duo of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo will grace our screens as the beloved friends Glinda and Elphaba in the much-anticipated return. Their unforgettable camaraderie is set to captivate us once more!
The film debuted in a huge way at the box office with $112.5 million from 3,888 theaters.
The movie has earned a total of $525.2 million globally, with $359.1 million coming from its run in U.S. cinemas and an additional $166.1 million from international box offices.
The movie has stirred up some debate, as theater chains such as AMC are advising against audience members joining in with the well-known tunes from the long-running (21-year) musical, one of the longest on Broadway.
It has been announced that Universal plans to release a ‘sing-along’ version from Christmas Day onwards.
Screenings inviting audiences to join in on the singing will take place at theaters from December 25 up until January 2.
In addition to the original cast, the sequel will feature actors like Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum.
Recently, Erivo shared insights into her preparations for portraying such a renowned musical character, confessing that it required extensive training.
Typically, when singing a large song, you feel anchored by the floor supporting you. However, while wearing a harness and corset, finding the right placement for your breath becomes crucial. This required both physical and mental adaptations, she noted.
Upon being queried regarding her co-star Grande, Erivo remarked, “We only connected when we were certain of the project. Our first duet made us realize how harmonious our voices sound together.
Cynthia remarked with joy: “After three long years, I can finally discuss it! I am incredibly thrilled that it’s now available.
In her 2024 Women in Hollywood feature with Elle, she expressed that she had acquired a sister. Currently, they converse nearly every day. Remarkably, both were astonished at the instant connection they shared.
