Nick Frost's vacation thriller Get Away is coming to Shudder in January

As a horror enthusiast with a penchant for unique and chilling films, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming streaming debut of “Get Away”! Having grown up watching Nick Frost’s comedic masterpieces like “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead”, it’s fascinating to see him delve into a darker, more sinister realm.

Experience a chilling folk horror tale unfolding during a disastrous family trip to an isolated Swedish island, titled “Get Away“. Starting next month, this IFC production will be available for streaming on Shudder! While it’s currently playing in select cinemas as part of its limited release, those unable to catch it at their local theater can look forward to enjoying it from the comfort of their homes on January 10, 2025.

In a different take, Nick Frost, the renowned English comedian and actor recognized for movies such as “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead,” finds himself as a family man planning a relaxing vacation with his loved ones. However, they are blissfully unaware that the island they’re traveling to has a haunting past filled with ominous rituals and traditions. To make matters worse, a murderer is on the loose on the very same island at the exact same time as their visit.

The movie titled “Get Away” was helmed by Steffen Haars, one of the founding members of the Dutch comedy group “New Kids.” Together with Frost, he worked on this film that offers a darkly humorous and gory experience, with Frost not only playing a part but also writing the screenplay. The cast includes Aisling Bea, Maisie Ayres, Eero Milonoff, among others. Netflix viewers may recognize Sebastian Croft from Heartstopper in his role here.

First shown in cinemas around early December, the horror film “Get Away” is among several noteworthy ones joining Shudder in January. Other titles on our watchlist include “Grafted”, a movie focusing on body horror, and “Dark Match”, featuring WWE Superstar Chris Jericho. Additionally, Frost appears in another newly added Shudder film, “Black Cab”, where he portrays an unnerving cab driver who abducts a young couple.

The movie “Get Away” is often likened to films such as “Midsommar” and “Sightseers” due to its eerie folk horror atmosphere and numerous unexpected plot developments. However, it stands out with its generous doses of humor and a strong emphasis on its darkly amusing undertones.

Check out the official trailer below.

Starting from January 10, 2025, Get Away will be available to stream on Shudder. Currently, you can catch it in selected cinemas as well.
