You can now watch Looted on BBC iPlayer. The documentary originally aired on BBC Two last night and was released in 2019.

The film has earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been highly praised by critics. Specifically, Kermode & Mayo’s Film Review highlighted it as a remarkably strong debut, suggesting the director is a talent to watch.

According to The Guardian, Pannevis has skillfully combined a compelling crime story with a vivid depiction of northern England’s struggles after the decline of industry, creating tension largely through the reader’s connection with the characters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pannevis is a beautifully shot, low-budget film that blends realistic storytelling with the suspense of a crime thriller and the relatable journey of a young person growing up.

According to The Radio Times, the atmospheric scenery of Hartlepool is cleverly used to highlight the growing sense of desperation as the characters’ situation worsens.

According to The Sunday Times, the film benefits from strong acting and a lively pace, despite being a fairly predictable example of British social realism. It’s also the feature film debut for its director, Rene van Pannevis.

According to Screen International, the film avoids common clichés found in British crime dramas about troubled teenagers, instead presenting a touching story about a fundamentally good young man struggling with a difficult situation.

Looted is now streaming on BBC iPLayer.
