Skeleton Crew: How the truth about At Attin could impact our young adventurers
As a longtime Star Wars enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of this epic saga for decades, I must say that “Skeleton Crew” is a refreshing and engaging addition to the franchise. It masterfully captures the innocence and naivety of youth as it unfolds against the backdrop of the galaxy’s complex history, which our young heroes are blissfully unaware of.
In the story “Skeleton Crew“, the carefree oblivion they enjoy could soon vanish, as their innocent state of unawareness won’t last forever.
On the planet At Attin, it seems everyone is unaware of the broader history of the galaxy, even its recent chapters. Despite Skeleton Crew being set during the New Republic era, which starts around five years after Return of the Jedi, the children appear oblivious to the fate of Alderaan. This isn’t a mere coincidence; Alderaan is merely the tip of an enormous iceberg. There’s much more about the history and events of At Attin that people are unaware of.
It seems that the unawareness stretches across most adults in At Attin, dating back multiple generations. It’s possible that everyone there is intentionally kept ignorant for their protection or the well-being of their planet. However, since the children have left their world and won’t return soon, it’s impossible to prevent them from uncovering the truth. As they explore further, these kids will learn much more than their parents ever anticipated, and this truth may cause them to question everything.
As a gamer named Wim, Neel, KB, or Fern, I can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions we’d experience upon realizing how sheltered our upbringing has been within At Attin. It might even leave us feeling deceived, considering every adult kept us in the dark about our planet’s history and the galaxy’s chaos.
As the issues in the galaxy, such as the battle between good and evil, become more evident, it’s expected that they’ll feel fear, worry, and uncertainty about their futures. The way each individual responds to this truth is influenced by their unique personalities. Everyone will process these upcoming events differently, and it’s understandable if some wish to leave the galactic journey behind because it no longer seems appealing or if others never want to go back to a world that feels disconnected from reality.
Based on who uncovers the truth and when, as well as the manner of revelation, it significantly impacts them as individuals and influences their perspectives towards others. Since Jod Na Nawood, also known as Crimson Jack, is the only adult in their company, he might struggle to manage such a delicate situation due to his unfamiliarity with it. According to Jude Law, Jod lacks understanding of innocence because he never had the chance to experience it himself. His upbringing was marked by survival struggles rather than nurturing and guidance, which makes it challenging for him to empathize with children and navigate their intricate feelings and behaviors.
Once the full truth concerning their planet is revealed, the children’s lives as they know them are likely to be drastically altered, with things never returning to the way they once were.
Skeleton Crew is streaming on Disney+.
